Rumpelstiltskin's reaction to seeing Belle
Re: Rumpelstiltskin's reaction to seeing Belle
After the events of the Season One final, Rumpelstiltskin has brought magic to our world.
(Making both himself and others around him, very powerful)
However despite this, some key factors of the curse still remain: e.g. No one being able to leave and his "Please" claus on Regina (He now has a powerful witch that will do his bidding).
I think Rumpel has brought magic into our world, so that he may break the curse and leave storybrook to find his son. I think this was his plan all along.
(Breaking the curse, Will Not take them back to Fairytale land)
I think Rumpel will find his son in our world and one of two things will happen.
1. His son, now and old man will die, and Rumpel will carry on with his hunger for power.
2. He will find his dying son, and will use his power to make him a young boy again.
It will be interesting to see who regains their powers.
Will the fairies regain their magic?
Will Red turn into a wolf at the next full moon?
I cant wait to find out

Re: Rumpelstiltskin's reaction to seeing Belle
I thought it was adorable that there was a brief moment of vulnerability to Rumple right after Belle said his name. He had this look like he wasn't exactly sure what she was going to think of him or how she was going to feel about him now that she remembered who he is. I thought this addressed everyone who had a problem with how he treated her when she kissed him in Skin Deep. He did recognize that he didn't treat her well and didn't know how she was going to react to him. So when she told him that she loved him I felt like there was a feeling of relief from him that she still loved him not just that she remembered him, and when he said "yes" I felt like he was reminding himself "yes, you idiot she always did love you, you were just too untrusting to believe her." And I thought that the way he said he loved her too had a bit of a sound of surrender to it - kind of like "Yep, you were right - you called me on it before. You always knew I loved you even though I tried to deny it."
I also thought it was significant that, not only did he take her along with him to his trip to the well, but he also TOLD her what he was doing. In Skin Deep I had the impression that once he left Belle's father's castle he never let her see the side of him that used magic or made deals - kind of like he was very careful to only let her see one side of him. But instead of just taking her along to make sure she was with him to keep her protected, he is now including her in what his plan has been all along. She did ask him to tell her about Bae back in Skin Deep but he never did - now he has a chance to make good on that promise. I think he has a lot of guilt and regret with Belle and now has a opportunity to make up for the mistakes he made. But that doesn't mean that he can just stop all the plans he has made for hundreds of years to get Bae back. It's interesting to me that Rumple has ALWAYS worked alone but now it seems like he is going to have someone beside him.

I agree. It did seem as if there was a time crunch --- maybe a window of time after the curse was broken in order to bring magic back? Maybe he knew the town-folk would be coming after him as much as Regina once they got their memories back? Maybe he figured Regina would be hot on his heels to get the Love Potion #9. I haven't had a chance to listen to the podcast yet, but I don't feel at all that he abandoned her on his mad quest for power. He told her, "There will be time for everything," after he accomplished his task.
Yes. See. I wasn't thinking about that scene that way, but it makes sense (& oddly gives me some comfort that he isn't all - I want to take over the world, which by the far, is the most cliche, 2-dimensional 'evil villain' thing to do.)

Re: Rumpelstiltskin's reaction to seeing Belle
That said, I never once thought that Rumpelstiltskin chose magic over Belle in the last scene. First, this was planned. He was always going to go to the well and drop the potion--the scene before Belle comes into the shop is proof. Second, he is going to need magic. Regina is not the only one in trouble--once everyone finds out that he made the curse, they will be out for him, and without magic, he'll die. Also, he's probably still looking for Bae--I doubt he has given up on him, and he will most likely need magic to find him. He let both Bae and Belle down with his choices, and so I think he has learned his lesson, and he has no intention of using his powers as he had before.
The first time Mr. Gold sees Belle is clear proof that he still loves her. He can't believe it's her--he has to touch her shoulder to believe. It makes me think that he must have seen her before--a dream, a figment of his imagination. And when he asks, "She did this to you?" it just foreshadows that Regina is in trouble, and I think it also shows his guilt that he easily took Regina's word. He was willing to trust her word on the matter and--as far as we can see--never looked for her, and because of that, Belle had been locked away for who knows how long. Then he says he will protect her, and that shows he does not want to repeat the mistakes he has made before. We already got that briefly when he thought August was Bae. When he says that Belle will remember, he sounds almost frightened, as though he fears what her reaction will be when she recalls how he had treated her.
We don't what happens afterwards--we can guess that he quickly leaves the shop (he seemed to be in a real hurry) and takes her with him. And then when Belle remembers, he actually looks truly frightened, and that shows that he has been living in regret. He looks afraid of her reaction, if she will reject him, yell at him, or walk away from him. Yet she says she loves him, and the pure relief and love is present in both his expression and voice. He finally admits that he loves her.

loved BOTH Rumbelle scenes. I didn't have ANY problem with the scene in the woods. We have to remember that Gold had been planning for this particular moment for hundreds of years when suddenly Belle shows up. As much as he loves her and as overwhelmed as he is that she is alive he can't just suddenly stop his years old plan to spend quality time with her.

Re: Rumpelstiltskin's reaction to seeing Belle
I totally agree with you about the moments after Belle said his name. It was as if the last few hours after that kiss flashed before his eyes. When he turned around, he wasn't sure how she would react. (And let's not forget all those times he put her in the Dungeon ("Your Room")! You nailed it perfectly about the feeling of relief after she said she loved him. She didn't just "remember" him - she still "loved" him. And you were right about the way he said "yes" - "yes" I was an idiot to let you go last time. He may have had a good reason (his need to keep his powers to find Bae), but he sure didn't communicate it well!
So I, too, had no problem with the scene in the woods. He was on his way to do that before Belle arrived. And it was a Love Potion he threw into the well - not a Dark Curse. I look forward to seeing what an "angry Rumple" is going to do with Regina. An "angry Rumplestiltskin" is a dangerous creature in any Land - whether it be FTL or SB! Watch out, your Majesty!
Glad to see others share the same thoughts! Can't wait for September! I really hate Summer hiatus!

And i think it very unlikely that the opening episode of season 2 is going to be a Rumpel episode. And i doubt there are spoilers about that because the actors don't even know. And they really need to do first meetings with Emma, Snow, Charming, and Henry.
It may very well be. The big cliffhanger was about Rumpel and him bringing magic into the world. If they don't address that in the season premiere, then what's the point of having it as the cliffhanger? And I'm not sure is a family reunion is more important than having an entire world transformed from a land without magic to a land with magic.
