Mr. Gold/Rumpelstiltskin Character Analysis

We've been led to believe that power and magic lead to evil deeds. But there are other fairytale creatures that possess magic and power who are actually good. So, I'd like to hear what they'd have to say about magic and the price they had to pay, if any at all.
I think they pay a price, also. It seems that everyone who has magic is destined for a lonely life. Ever since Rumple has obtained his magic he has suffered by losing both Bae and Belle. Regina, after losing Daniel, never did really find a way to truly fill her heart, like Snow and even Maleficent told her. Then on the good side, we see the fairies who are destined to live without having romantic love. The Blue Fairy let us know that it didn't have a place in their lives, hence why them being an order of Nuns makes sense in Storybrooke...they serve a higher calling. Let's see, who else is magical...Archie/Jiminy. He decided to live life as a cricket. He may be happy, but he'll never have true love, either, unless it's in Storybrooke or with a non-magical cricket. Then there is Jefferson who uses magic isn't the happiest person in the world, losing his wife and his situation with his daughter. Everyone has paid a price of some sort of the other where magic is concerned.

Re: Mr. Gold/Rumpelstiltskin Character Analysis
So I think one of the callers (Belle) brought up an interesting idea/thought from last week's podcast.
The issue that I am addressing is the fact that Rumpelstilskin may have had Regina carry out the curse because Rumpel would be unable to kill the thing that he loves the most.
Now, I think this can play out in various ways and open many doors when it comes to plot.
I unfortunately don't see Rumpelstilskin making it to the end of the series due to the emphasis on having to kill the dark one with a dagger in episode 1.08, and I truly believe that if it ever came to the point where Rumple had to die for either Belle or Bae, that he would gladly do so.
But why bring this up? Well, I think that if these two figures ever came in harms way that Rumpel would choose them over his power, and I think this is a card the Regina knows that she has. I think the the potluck in this game has went up a bit now that magic is being introduced into the story again, and I could see Emma's favor either being Emma killing him (before Regina does) or something as equally dramatic.
Sacrifice is a consistent and major theme of this show....
Thoughts, speculations, theories?

I tragically agree with you, The_Savior. Rumpel is hands down my favorite character, but I have this awful feeling he will eventually give his life to protect either Belle or Bae (showing that love made him strong enough to shed his cowardice.) ....Hopefully Belle shall come to the rescue with true love kisses…. What a heartfelt scene that would be. But I would want it in the last episode of the entire series so I get my fill of Rumple!

I too fear they might kill him but one of the most important things in this show is hope and how true love is the most powerful magic in the world so I think there might be Rumple's salvation. He still has people who love him unlike Regina who has lost that. The existence of the dagger does scare me but I think Belle and/or Bae will eventually be the ones who will save him,

So, I'm a little dumbfounded at Rumpel's response to Belle concerning him brining magic into our world.
I TRULY believed that he realized the price of magic after telling people copious amounts of times it's consequences, him losing his son, and Belle. Like... part of me wants to believe that it's for a good intention, like breaking a bigger curse, or stopping something WORSE from happening, but the way he says "magic is power" maliciously, makes me think otherwise.
I don't know.... I wonder what would have happened if August really was Bae in "The Return".
Thoughts?

I think the reason he needs power is to find his son. I believe if August really was Bae that he would have given up his powers for him. I dont think anything changed just because it turned out that August isnt his son.

It's the way that he said that makes me believe otherwise. As for if August was actually Bae, I wonder if he still would have dropped the vial into the well.

Some people have suggested that Rumpel is a bit like an addict when it comes to magic. I like that theory. Rumpel's been "clean" for 28 years whilst in Storybrooke but now that he's brought magic to Storybrooke, he's "falling off the wagon" so to speak.

I think you're right. Magic is like a drug to him. His behavior, his actions, even his line of thinking is radically changed when he uses magic. Many of the things he did in Fairytale land, I couldn't possibly see him doing in Storybrooke. Our at least that was until the season finale when he regained his powers.

I wonder how Belle is going to react to all of this "power".
I obviously think that Rumpel won't let Belle out of his sight in order to protect her, but I also can't see Belle wanting to stay with him if he uses it for evil again, but who knows, he might be more "tame" with his magic around her.
