I think that Rumple is not so much power hungry as he is using power to "protect" what belongs to him. In Desperate souls he says something that he was not afraid and that he protected what belongs to him.

Ofcourse, "protecting" your loved one doesn't mean you need to kill the mute maid...so its an abuse of power Rumple's dealing with...not that he wants to take over the entire world or anything. What the writers have made clear is that Rumple/Mr. Gold has a very specific code he's following...and I think that's using the power to find Bae.

I mean, if you were a really power-hungry person you would 1.Take over a kingdom., 2. Have the entire FTL bow down to your feet, and 3. Get all the gold and riches for yourself.

Ofcourse, once Rumple achieves his goal of finding and protecting those he loves...we will see what his motive might be then.

I'm still in the camp of believing that Mr. Gold released the magic so that he could find Baelfire. We saw just a few episodes back that he was ready to give up his magic for August. But that was when he thought he had actually FOUNF his son. But since he was mistaken, he's back to believing that he needs magic to find Baelfire. He'll give it up when he finds Baelfire. But dang it, he better find him soon!

I loved how Mr. Gold looked as if he had seen a ghost. He had to actually touch her just to make sure that he wasn't hallucinating

When Gold said “Your real" my heart shattered. It makes me think that he has dreamed about her before, and now he is in complete awe of her actually standing before him. I apologize for my cheesy comment, but it had to be said or else my fangirl mind would have exploded! I thought the reunion was sweet (when Rumple hugged Belle she made a face like should I be concerned this strange man is hugging me?) Gold’s face was precious.

I believe the reason things seemed rushed in the forest scene is because rumple is a bit shaken. He still wants to go along with his centuries old plan, but now is trying to fit Belle into the picture. He won't let Belle out of his sight in order to protect her, so I love how he dragged her along into the forest with him to spill the love potion in the well. He cares deeply about her, so I think part of him does want the power to protect her and find his son (because he thinks he won’t be able to as a coward) but I also believe he has other emotions targeted on the want to be in a state of power and control. It’s fantastic the characters are not simply black and white. There is so much hidden is the grey areas. The viewer s perspective play an important role.

I loved their reunion! Two things in particular struck me about their reunion.

When Belle remembered who she was, she immediately told him that she loved him but she didn't try to kiss him - she just hugged him. This time there were no alterior motives and there was no reason for him to doubt that her love for him was unconditional. She wasn't taking any chances with him this time. Obviously he wasn't green Rumple anymore, but I think it was more of a respect thing based upon what had happened before.

Also, in Skin Deep right before Belle kissed him she said "And since then you have loved no one and no one has loved you" then Rumple went ballistic and ended up denying his feelings and kicking her out of his rather large estate. This time around he immediately told her that he loved her. He had a lot of time to regret never telling her that he loved her and this time around he didn't want to make the same mistake again.

The whole purple smoke thing could mean a number of things. I think they made it extremely dramatic because it was the season finale. Personally I think that Rumple needs magic/power in order to find Bae. I don't think that he is doing anything particularly horrible or dark because I don't believe he would include Belle in anything like that - and he seemed almost enthusiastic about including Belle in his plan. Plus, before Rumple kicked Belle out in Skin Deep she had been asking him to tell her about Bae - I think he is following through on his promise to tell her about him. Since he said he would protect her, she is going to end up being a part of his search for Bae.

I think their relationship is going to have problems - it would be a really boring TV relationship if it didn't. Based upon Rumple's personality, most likely his obsession with power is going to be the thing that causes the problems in their relationship.

I thought the reunion was sweet (when Rumple hugged Belle she made a face like should I be concerned this strange man is hugging me?) Gold’s face was precious.

When I rewatched that scene I couldn't help thinking that "this man must be my uncle or an old family friend" was probably going through Belle's mind when he hugged her. I know, horrible thought , even though I'm a huge Rumbelle shipper.

I loved how nonchalantly Mr. Gold told Belle that the shop was closed...and then that shocked face of disbelief...love that!

And how he reached out to her..to make sure she was real..rubbing his thumb across her shoulder(although it creeped her out )..so touching **sigh**

And then the way he slowly turned and faced her when she called out his name...the look of love(but a bit of fear)...

The tenderness he showed when he placed his hand on her cheek ...and told her that there would be time for everything....

Thinking back on the pilot and first couple episodes, did you ever think we'd be this in love with a Rumplestiltskin ship! More people are commenting about them than the Charmings. Hehe.

I know! It's so weird! In the beginning, I loved Rumpel because...well...he's freaking awesome. End of story. But "Skin Deep" was surprisingly sweet and heartbreaking. It made me view Rumpel in whole new light. I almost feel wierd for liking this ship, but it's true. I love it to pieces.
