Ruby Slippers
Rumpel was very interested in a pair of slippers that Jefferson said had already been transported to a land to which Rumpel wanted to go. I believe these were Dorothy's ruby slippers, which she used to travel between the Land of Oz and our world.

*gasp* Oh my gosh, he said slippers?!?!?! I knew he said something, but I couldn't quite make it out. That is really awesome.... It makes me wonder if those slippers are going to be important later on, and if some of the characters are eventually going to take a trip to Oz. (My fingers are crossed that Regina becomes the misunderstood Wicked Witch of the West, kind of like Elphaba in the musical Wicked.)

I don't know why, but I thought of cinderella.

I laughed when I heard he wanted the shoes! Maybe we'll get to see Dorothy with the shoes or the Wicked Witch!

Oh so that's what he was saying. I knew it started with an 's' but I couldn't quite make it out.
Also, the ruby slippers are only 'ruby' in the movie, they're silver slippers in the book.

Oh yeah, I hadn't thought of that. So, if they did do the Wizard of Oz in Once, would the slippers be Ruby or Silver? I could see people being really upset if they were ruby, but then again it won't exactly be the same if they're silver. It would probably be easier not to show them at all, but then I would be sad...
Oh! I just had a random thought! That crystal ball the Jefferson got for Rumple really reminded me of the one that's in the Wizard of Oz movie. Not saying there's a connection, just pointing out the similarities.

Is it the one the Wizard of Oz uses or the Wicked Witch?

We don't really know what the Wizard of Oz uses. All we know is that he travels around in a hot air balloon. Does he even have his own separate magical object?

If anything, they should probably have the slippers wrapped up to hide what color they are, that way everyone is happy. Although, if they do show them, I'd wager they'd be ruby since more people are familiar with the 1939 movie, instead of the book.
A lot of movies use crystals, cauldrons, and birds ( mostly ravens & crows ) as means of spying.
So in effect, that crystal you see in the movie is a spyglass.
