Mr. Gold/Rumpelstiltskin Character Analysis
Re: Mr. Gold/Rumpelstiltskin Character Analysis
1) The Well can bring back that which has been lost. Maybe he wants the Well to bring Bae to him?
2) Magic would heal his knee, and anything else that ails him.
3) He thinks he needs power to protect himself and Belle. The town will be mad at him for creating the curse. Then there's Regina.
4) Some people there really DO need magic (Pinocchio, Jefferson)
5) Gol' darnit--He's GOOD at magic. Rumple is a true Artist, in a Babette's Feast kind of way. Let him create!
Ok, then why do I still have this queasy feeling in the pit of my stomach?
PriceofMagic wrote:Some people have suggested that Rumpel is a bit like an addict when it comes to magic. I like that theory. Rumpel's been "clean" for 28 years whilst in Storybrooke but now that he's brought magic to Storybrooke, he's "falling off the wagon" so to speak.
"O Dearie Dearie Dear." Addiction is a tough thing to deal with in any relationship. We all know he's power-hungry. Always has been. I truly thought he'd reformed, learned a different currency for power in SB. Then I remember that Power and Magic are just tools, not good or evil. Neutral. It's all in how they are used ... and the point of view. (Remember when he picked up the Gold Fairy's wand and told Cinderella it was "pure evil"? To him, it was ...) I'm pretty sure Belle will do her best to make sure he uses it for good. She will be his conscience, so to speak. I'm more worried about Rumple being Over-Protective of Belle. She'll give him "what for" on that count, too.
In any case, it's good to have them together again!

They keep saying that magic in our world in unpredictable, so why should we just assume that the dagger, dark ones powers, Regina's powers are going to be the same as they are in FTL?

I have no idea what to expect of Rumple/Gold. He always does what you expect him not to.

Do we need another Archie/Jiminy-led intervention? A 12-step Magic-Addition Anonymous club. We have quite a few potential members. They can meet in the abandoned Library.
LOL. We would definitely see Regina and Cora there! And possibly Jefferson.

I miss seeing Archie. I really think his gentle personality and calm demeanor are needed in SB, where $%^& goes flying all the time.
Plus, seeing him trying to counsel Regina might be one of the best things ever. Also, I want him lamenting not being a cricket anymore.

I am the Keeper:
Of Rumple's Laugh
& Prince Charming's swag cape because he whips it around so much that it's become a supporting character

I actually think it’s pretty interesting that Regina has gone from being one of the most powerful people in the world, to one of the weakest. All because of the lack of love in her life.

Emma (because of her love for Henry), Snow and Charming, and even Rumpel (because of his love for Belle and Baelfire). Regina however, may be the only one left out. Regina’s true love, Daniel, is dead and she killed the only other person who she really loved: Her father, Henry. Yes, she has little Henry, but since the writers chose to have Emma’s kiss revive Henry, I think that was confirmation that Regina’s kiss probably wouldn’t have worked.

I really like this theory. I find it very ironic that Regina may not be able to make the power of true love work. Hate has fueled everything that Regina has done up until this point. She's not trying to find anyone or bring someone back to life. She's just out for revenge. That find of hate tends to kill any last bit of love and compassion left in a person. And it was that hate that made it possible for her to cast the curse. Her hatred for Snow was so strong that it drove her to kill her own father. But now that this new magic has come to Storybrooke, she may have a hard time getting it to work. Her true love Daniel is dead, and she killed her father. So, she really doesn't have anyone who she truly loves.
I just find it very convenient that the writers decided to reunite most of the characters with their true loves in the same episode where the magic of true love is brought into Storybrooke. This may be a clue that having true love in your life is what will make the magic work.

I like it! I've often wondered about Regina's true love for Daniel. I have no doubt that she loved him (as evidenced by the lengths she goes to destroy Snow White after his death) but I think her quest stopped being about revenge a long time ago and started being more about power. Look how maliciously she uses Graham in SB, using her power over him to get what she wants ("special time") all the while knowing who she is and of her true love for Daniel.
If magic is coming, I think Regina will get her powers back, but they won't be able to match the "true love" powers that Emma/SW/Charming/ect will have.
