How did Rumple escape the dark curse?

Postby slurpeez108 » March 6, 2012, 5:46 am

Rumple has always known how the dark curse would be enacted and how to avoid it. How did Rumple escape the consequences of the dark curse and maintain his memories of FTL?

This is a continuation of a theory I posted elsewhere in reference to why Rumplestiltskin would willingly walk into a trap set by Cinderella. Here is that thread: http://oncepodcast.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=228

"I bet Rumple knew what was coming, and willingly walked into the trap Cinders tried to set. Perhaps he wanted to be imprisoned in a magical mine to be protected from the EQ's curse. Perhaps the fairy dust/magic wooden prison bars shielded Rumple from the dark magic, thereby preserving his memories of FTL when he was transported to SB with the rest of the bunch. Also, he probably foresaw Snow White would only come to him for help about the curse once he was safely behind magical bars. That way, he was able to strike a deal with her: knowledge about the curse and how to break it in exchange for her unborn child's name: Emma. We already know that for Rumple, knowing someone's name gives him power over that person. Now in SB, Mr. Gold may have that power, plus Emma owes him a favor in exchange for allowing Ashley to keep her baby."

Thoughts?

I kind of think of him as a computer software designer who sells his software but has created hidden passwords so that he can still get into the system even after he has sold it. He wasn't the one who enacted the curse but because he created it, he had created ways he could still manipulate his way through it in order to remember. I have no idea how he did it. Maybe that's what he needed the wand for. But I do think he did it because he knew he would need to help Emma break the curse. But all magic comes at a price. For Rumple it has been having to continue to live with the pain of the loss of Bae and Belle. At least for the rest of the characters in Storybrooke they don't know they have been separated from their loved ones - they are kind of blissfully unaware. Rumple chose to continue to live with his pain.

:D Awesome comparison. There is definitely a loophole in the curse even the Evil Queen wasn't aware of. but she should have thought of it because he made the Dark Curse.

that's an interesting theory about why Rumple needed the wand.

The strange thing is, I always thought the Evil Queen wouldn't remember anything either and yet she does. It doesn't matter if she always knew or she began remembering with Emma's arrival.

I love the computer software comparison :). I'm sure Rumplestiltskin has always secretly had the upper hand in every deal hes made. I don't think the curse didn't effect him just because he was in that prison. Maybe there was one or Two more cell with diamonds. Then all the prisoners would remember. Well, it could explain if Belle really does remember... Or maybe since diamonds are rare, only Rumplestiltskin and belle's cells were made of them. Or maybe it didn't work on Rumple because he was the Dark One. OOH or maybe if he made the curse whenever Belle was living with him he made it to where the curse wouldn't work on either of them. Then he didn't realize that it worked on belle because he thought she was dead.

Wow. My head hurts. :)

They did seem to drink an awful lot of tea in the castle. And it always seemed odd to me that Rumplestiltskin drank tea. He never struck me as a tea drinker. And it was odd that he served her tea when he threw her back in her "room" after they kissed. Maybe something in the tea protected them from the curse? Maybe Belle didn't drink enough during her time at the castle to fully remember who she is but enough to have enough memories to be dangerous to Regina and to need to be locked away from the rest of Storybrook. Maybe what Rumple was drinking from his flask wasn't alcohol but was his special tea.

Alright, RC is supposed to be tweeting tonight. Now I know what I'm going to ask him. I must know what Rumple's drink of choice is. If the OUaT gods are smiling upon me maybe my tweet won't get buried in the other 100,000 tweets from 16 year-old fangirls.

Haha good luck with that. I like the idea of the tea being the cure for the curse. But where does Belle living with Rumplestiltskin fit on the timeline? I'm gonna have to research this a bit. it would be good to know Rumple's agenda to.
