The well ... again
Did anyone else notice the well in front of Jefferson's house? I might be wrong but I feel like these wells they keep showing in many episodes are of significance .... Maybe all of them have some kind of special purpose? Maybe they could be used as passage ways between the different worlds. I might be overanalyzing this. But why focus on them so much if they were just regular wells used to get water?

The reappearance of the well seems to have a lot of significance. We saw a well in ep. 4, 13, 15, and now 17. Have we seen it anywhere else?Maybe the wells are all fed by water from Lake Gnostos. I'm reminded of the wishing well from the Disney version of Snow White. Also, in Celtic and German traditions, water was thought to have healing properties. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wishing_well

I think that if a hat can be a portal to a room of doors which leads to other worlds then all these wells probably have that same sort of connotation.
To me, the wells are a different form of travel between the worlds.
It makes sense to a degree, based on how quickly Thomas disappeared in 'Price of Gold'.
However, part of me thinks these wells just might be interconnected among the realms of FTL. Kind of a`la the pipeworks in Super Mario. You go in at point A & show up at Point B or something along those lines. It would be a rather useful mode of transport, nice & stealthy.

The well outside his house in FTL where Grace met up with the neighbors, right?

@sjm: That's correct. When Jefferson opens the door, the neighbor's are standing next to the well & Grace goes over to meet them, so yes - it's outside Jefferson's house in FTL.

I had the same thought. It's just so strange that they would explicitly show the wells if there wasn't a meaning for it. Also, it could be an explanation why August thinks so highly of water. Or maybe it's just recurring object (I'm trying to remember the exact expression for those type of objects, like the grandfather clock in Charmed … *blackout*
