Also I’m pretty sure the Mysterious Island cover was made by the production team because as far as I can tell, there aren’t any editions of The Mysterious Island released under a “Modern Classics Collection” as listed on the cover of the book as Mary Margaret reads it. What I did find was one under “Modern Library Classics”, which they probably based it on and the island on the cover bears a striking resemblance to the Island from Lost. Also the text on the back cover of MM’s book is the exact text from the trade paperback from “Modern Library Classics”.

@DanielJLewis a little bit, but it would still make sense that if magic cant do those things then it must be because those things wield a power that is greater or outside of the bounds of magic. it could be sappy, but it would still be in line with typical fairy tale fodder. and it might explain the big rainbow boom that happened when Prince Charming kissed Snow White at the very beginning of the pilot episode.

i wonder…Rumple cant make people fall in love or bring people back from the dead, stating that magic has it’s limits and cant do those things…so do you think that means those things are more powerful than magic, hence why magic cant touch them? that would be very classic fairy tale–”love conquers all” and all that.

@NONNIE Yes, we try to update the time line with at least Fairytale Land information as soon as we can. The Storybrooke timeline has been a lower priority since there aren’t so many “reveals” for it, and we’re watching it chronologically—at least so far.

@NONNIE That’s my thinking, too. We certainly haven’t seen much or anything to indicate that the kingdom is rich from any merger with Midas’s kingdom. Consider in “The Price of Gold” that Prince Thomas’s kingdom was suffering. If Thomas and James were such good friends, then why didn’t prosperous James help Thomas? I’m thinking because there is no such gold-infused prosperity.

@MistySwirl That’s cool, but I don’t know. To me, that seems like stepping out of the story. It’s like when you’re watching a movie and the character suddenly talks to you, the audience. It makes for great humor, but also makes the story less believable.

@sairafaith You’re right, Emma is the only exception who was protected from the curse–as far as anyone knows. I figure if there was a way to protect Emma, maybe someone else was able to protect their seven-year-old boy, making him both from FTL and the boy who found Emma.

Lewis but isnt she the only exception since she was sent out in order to be the savior? i mean, i guess they could throw us a curveball with it… but the gist is, all the Fairy Tale characters were sent to Storybrooke–that’s the curse. all but Emma, that is–she was sent out of Fairy Tale land before the curse was enacted, hence why shes the exception. so unless someone else was sent out of FTL before the curse, it doesnt make sense for the stranger to be from FTL. that said, if he is from FTL, he could have been “sent out of FTL” via death (like if he was the Queen’s “most loved” perhaps??), and maybe thats how an exception could exist.

Thanks STARRY DREAMER… I do not have cable but I saw him when I watched FIGHT CLUB, a hubby favorite.

THE STRANGER … Wouldn’t Emma know if the stranger had been Henry’s father. I am assuming it was more than a one night stand and that is why EMMA is cautious with her heart…. broken by Henry’s father.

If we stick with DISNEY FILMS… monkeys/ baboons/ apes are in LION KING and Jungle Book.

Grimm Fairy Tales …. the dwarfs have no names listed… I did not find any versions other than Disney who have named the dwarfs. Grimm’s had 211 fairy tales listed… most under 4 pages in length.

Is the TIME LINE being updated with each new show?

Mary Margaret’s book … small rural libraries only have OLD BOOKS…. ask me how I know.

Wikipedia … says MYSTERIOUS ISLAND was a follow up to 20,000 Leagues under the Sea and in Search of the Castaways … Looks like a good movie IF YOU KNOW THOSE STORIES.

Maybe King George was killed / died in the interim… the prince is still a prince until crowned… If Prince Charming/ James goes off to find SNOW he might delay the crowning as king so he could have the queen of his choice.

As for Midas… in the Greek tales he turned his daughter into gold by accident so may that is why the wedding got called off…. you can not marry a gold statue. I think Midas killed himself after turning his daughter into gold… do not quote me cause it has been multiple years since I read that story in college.

flammable stuff: The hay might be used as rushes on the floors. In many middle age castles they put rushes on the floor to provide warmth, absorb sound, and a path for people to walk on. Absorbed garbage cause middle agers were not clean. The rushes would be swept away periodically and new rushes would then be put on the floor.

What is the name of the STRANGER??? …. the actor… thought I had seen him in something else but not sure?

BTW Amazon has several GRIMM COMPLETE FAIRY TALE BOOKS… but many of the stories are from Hans Christian Anderson and now I am discovering there are tons of fairy tales books listed for other countries… Chinese, Russian, Indian, etc

I think that he’s probably not originally from Storybrooke. We could look at other stories for ideas of who he is, but Once Upon a Time isn’t other stories.

i like all these theories about who the stranger is, but obviously what we really need is some more information. i want to know if he’s originally from Storybrooke. if he’s not, then he cant be one of the characters in the book..right? cause they all live in Storybrooke and cant leave unless theyre coming back. but since Reginia said “there’s something familiar about him”, im super curious.
