Belle is the librarian of Storybrooke’s boarded-up library. In the Disney version, Belle is an avid reader and bookworm, and the Beast presents the library of the castle to Belle. In OUAT, not only is Belle a bargaining chip for Regina to use against Mr. Gold, but Belle appears “crazy” for believing in town folk-lore. Regina locks her away, because Belle believes the fairy-tales are real and could possibly have intimate knowledge of the curse from doing research on Mr. Gold. Perhaps Belle smuggled Henry’s story book out of the library and into the school before she was shut away in the hospital’s psychiatric ward.

I can’t fully buy into this theory. But I do think it’s interesting!

I don’t know. I know that Rumple believes Belle to be dead but is there a way that Belle still has some memories of the past? This would be a great reason for Ragina to keep her locked up.
I can sort of buy Belle falling into Fairytale land through books like Henry did, after all that is what she lived through in her little town in The Disney version and the town thought she was crazy. Plus Ragina was quite mad about Henry having the book, ” What in the hell is this book I keep hearing about?!” Just imagine if you combined Henry and Belle. Keep all believers locked away in a mental ward or send them to a therapist.

I think Belle has been in the hidden ward since Storybook was created because Rumple thinks she is dead and that she died in fairytale land. I like the theory of her being the librarian because of her love of books in the Disney version, but I just don’t see that she was ever a part of Storybrook outside of the ward. Mr. Gold would have seen her and known she was alive…it doesn’t seem like a big enough town for him not to have seen her. Maybe if she eventually gets released she will open the library back up!
