I noticed that the EQ made two very interesting threats in the pilot episode. Firstly, she said it at the royal wedding: “My gift to you is this happy, happy day. But, tomorrow, my real works begins. You’ve made your vows. Now, I make mine. Soon, everything you love, everything all of you love, will be taken from you forever. And out of your suffering, will arise my victory. I shall destroy your happiness, if it is the last thing I do.“

Secondly, Regina threatened to destroy Emma if she got in the way: “Do you know what a closed adoption is? It’s what you asked for. You have no legal right to Henry, and you’re going to be held to that. So I suggest you get in your car and you leave this town. Because if you don’t, I will destroy you if it is the last thing I do.“

To me, the parallelism of the two threats seems important. I wonder if, in the end, Regina will be true to her word, and die in the process of trying to destroy everything. I also think that Regina has no legal hold over Henry, since Rumple probably procured him illegally, as he tried to do with Ashley’s baby in episode 4, The Price of Gold. However, Emma threatened to reveal his shady deal. Now that Emma is the serif, if she finds out that Regina gained Henry through Mr. Gold, I’m sure she’ll fight to gain custody of Henry.

nice catch. I think there several parallel quotes like that I may be missing. I know some have been pointed out in the podcasts.

I did catch the parallel in the pilot between those two quotes 😀

Probably. We still don’t know how Mr. Gold was able to get Henry, but I suspect, it was through illegal tactics (baby black market), but then how did he know to specifically get Henry?

Ooooh! 😮 I had a thought. What if Mr. Gold read that article about a little boy finding a baby on the side of the road? He already knew Emma’s name but if that article was in Emma’s personal file way back then, he could have put two and two together and figured that she was Charming/Snow’s daughter.

I suspect you’re right, that the adoption wasn’t legal. A shady adoption would give Gold a built-in control device over Regina and a back door in case he ever decided Henry should be with another parent. A very Goldian kind of scheme.

Hmm! I think I’ll change my screen saver at work to read “Think like Gold: build back doors.”
