Ruby found the embellished wooden box with a human heart in it.
The box Ruby found is different from the box Regina meant for Snow White’s heart.
The box on Regina’s desk is the one which held the heart of her prized steed, and her father’s:

I also noticed that the box in the ground was different then the ones that the queen kept in her vault and that gave me pause about whether or not Regina was the one who put the heart. Maybe the vault boxes never leave that room, but when she has to move a heart from somewhere else she uses something else like the box she put her father’s heart in when she killed him. I don’t know.
