DANIEL touched on the history in the podcast but did not go far enough back in time.

Peter and the Wolfe was a RUSSIAN fairy tale going back centuries. The composer Tsychovski (miss spelled I am sure) create a Russian ballet / smyphony using the fairy tale as background. Disney took the smphynony and created a cartoon feature in the 1930s. It was a effort on his part to introduce culture to the American school children. The cartoon feature has been played on the Disney shows many times through out the years. I remember seeing it in the 50s and 60s on the WONDERFUL WORLD OF DISNEY.

I have been investigating fairy tales from different cultures recently. Apperently after the Grimm fairy tales were published and translated into English and other languages; other countries started doing the same. They collected their own countries fairytales and published them, usually in academic libraries but sometime released as children’d book. I have gotten a copy of Italian fairytales from a cousin in Italy; unfortunately it is in Italian and I do not read Italian.

Peter and the Wolf, Op. 67, is a composition written by Sergei Prokofiev in 1936 in the USSR. It is a children’s story (with both music and text by Prokofiev), spoken by a narrator accompanied by the orchestra.

The Disney short cartoon was in 1946. He had a talking bird, duck and a cat. 😆

I thought it was a brilliant twist to include ‘Peter’ as Red’s love in Fairytale land.
