In SB, we saw Mr. Gold say to Mary Margaret in the jail scene that he has a vested interest in her future. We also saw Rumple say the same thing to Snow White in FTL when she wanted his help killing the queen. Why would Rumple have an invested interest in SW’s future? Was it because of Emma? He can see the future after all, and he must have a grand plan that we’re starting to see unfold. Here are some key points to consider about what his agenda might be.
1. We saw Rumple combine the hairs of Snow White and Prince Charming to make what appears to be a love potion. Yet, when SW first came to Rumple, he said he couldn’t make people fall in love, because “twue wuv” is the most powerful magic there is. Why did he lie, and why was he so secretive in collecting the hairs to make a potion? Could the potion have something to do with Belle? In episode 12, we saw Rumple has some serious low self-esteem when he rejected Belle and said “Nobody can ever love me!” Did Rumple make the potion after meeting Belle or before? Does Rumple think that the only he could ever have true love is through magic? Or does he want the potion for some other reason such as his son, his first wife, or perhaps for himself?
2. When Emma and Snow White each asked for help from Mr. Gold, they had faith he could take down Regina. Mr. Gold was even willing to do it pro bono (without payment). He obviously is eager to get even with Regina for something, or at lease to change the balance of power. Perhaps Mr. Gold has the ability to reveal Regina as a fake. He called her a powerful woman in SB. Perhaps he wants to see her power usurped. Also, perhaps Rumple knows Belle is alive, and he’s going to use this opportunity to defraud Regina publicly in a court of law in an effort to get Belle back.

I still don’t think there is magic to make someone fall in love, even with Rumplestiltskin’s new potion. He doesn’t NEED to make Belle fall in love with him (as long as she remembers him) and I’m sure Rumple is still in love with Belle. I think the bottled True Love is to help break other curses, maybe even the Dark Curse. It still seems that although Rumple created the Dark Curse, he obviously needed the EQ to enact it. And yet all along he has been planning to ultimately break the curse eventually (which is why I think he repeatedly tells MM/SW that he has vested interest in her future).
March 19, 2012 at 3:13 am #139117RumplesGirlKeymasterBecause Rumple can see the future I have thought for a very long time now that all the deals we see him making prior to the long break over the winter were in order to ensure 1) that he remembers who he is in SB and 2) that he has a way to break the curse, or at least assist Emma in the breaking of the curse. He is very invested in SW because she has to have Emma and he is invested in MM because if the curse set off by the EQ is based initially around her hatred for SW, it follows that you are going to need MM to break it.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"March 19, 2012 at 3:24 am #139119BelleOfTheBallParticipantI’m not sure Rumple’s point in giving SW the bow and arrow was ever to kill the queen. Like we have seen before, he carefully answers SW question in a way that she wants but perhaps has a deeper meaning. Rumple carefully chooses the words “The arrow never misses it’s target” but who is it to say that Charming wasn’t the target all along. Perhaps in order for the two hairs to combine into the love potion, they had to be in love in that moment. It was clearly paralleled that as SW and Charming kissed again, Rumple bottled their hairs together.
On another note, i think it was the bottling of these two hairs together and the actual potion made from their love that keeps MM and David together in SB. They have a draw to each other like no one else has with their FTL counterpart. Sure other couples have stayed together, but theirs is so much deeper and richer than others. Just a thought.
Also, didn’t rumple comment that once he has bottled love he would have mastered all powers or all elements or something along those lines?
Do you think the bottles were transported somewhere into SB, like the other FTL artifacts? I don’t think it would be unheard of.
March 19, 2012 at 3:27 am #139121RumplesGirlKeymasterI have to agree with your last point. I think those bottles are going to resurface, and soon. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were in the pawn shop in SB. *if Regina has them, I may cry*
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"March 19, 2012 at 3:45 am #139126weedithParticipantI’m as much of a romantic as the next person, and a Rum/Belle shipper to boot, but I feel like Rumplestiltskin’s agenda goes beyond just reuniting with his lost love. Mr. Gold honestly believes Belle is gone forever, “she’s not coming back.” And when he told Grumpy that love was the most powerful magic that exists, it was in the same conversation that he said that no magic can bring back true love. “If you can bottle love, you can do anything.” I get the feeling that Rumple has his sights set higher than just his own lost romance.
What that is??? No clue. Possibly something to do with breaking the dark curse? Possibly ridding the world of the dark magic? Maybe nothing so benevolent as that. Maybe just putting the world out of its misery.
A couple of other themes that jumped out from tonight’s episode that may be related to Rumple’s agenda: 1) it was mentioned a couple of times that “evil is made, not born,” and 2) that losing love can drive you do do unspeakable things. We know both Rumple and EQ have lost loves in FTL. Neither one of them has a happy ever after in FTL.

I agree. Which is why I think at some point Regina is going to trot out Belle from the basement and let Gold see her. Then tell him that if he wants any kind of “happily ever after” he better play by her rules and stop helping Emma/MM.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"March 19, 2012 at 3:52 am #139129hjbauParticipantI don’t think that Rumpel can see the future unless we are to believe he knows that Belle is trapped in that dungeon and doesn’t care.
Maybe Gold used those bottles to make the curse which would be maybe how Emma is the one who breaks the curse by using her parents love.
March 19, 2012 at 4:06 am #139133SnickerdoodleParticipantI thought it was interesting how SW desire to kill the EQ paralleled with Emma’s desire to expose Regina. I like the thought that the arrow never misses it’s target was intended for James all along.

The locals certainly believe that Rumplestiltskin can see the future. I can’t recall the exact scene and episode, but I know some character came out and said it. That was why Snow insisted she wanted to talk to Rumple, when he found out the baby’s name. Rumple predicted that when their baby was 28 years old she would return and save them all, and that turned out to be correct. I don’t interpret it that he is all-knowing and all-seeing, but that there are some things he can see, or possibly that he can use magic to see the future, but of course always paying a price.

Oh, I like the idea that he he used his complete set of magic bottles to create the curse and needed the love juice to make it work.
