I’m listening to the latest Once podcast episode and googled where I can find free audio books of the Grimm fairytales. Archive.org has the entire collection. The stories were narrated by a whole bunch of people for anyone interested. 😀

Might be good to listen to during the long summer hiatus 😀

Thanks for the link, obisgirl. Might be useful for winter time now as well 😉

    And to celebrate!

On December, 20th 1812, 200 years ago, the first edition of the first book of “Children’s and Household Tales” by the Brothers Grimm was published.

Because of that and because of the 150th anniversary of the death of Jacob Grimm in September 2013 (and another brother of the Grimm family, an illustrator) the state of Hessen, Germany is celebrating in 2013 a Grimm year. In connection to this anniversary the Goethe Institute did some stuff, of course, here a collection of their links . Among other things they did a video contest, which resulted in some nice short videos. The website they’re on is interesting too, but only available in German or Italian, but the videos are enjoyable no matter what language you understand.

    Dream’s Shadow
    Rothäppchen (red bit)

There are some more videos, but liked these two most.

Looking for a Christmas present? This might be interesting for some: The first edition of the Grimm fairy tales collection from 1812/1815 is finally available in English, and seems tom come with some beautiful illustrations.
Grimm brothers’ fairytales have blood and horror restored in new translation

As well Neil Gaiman has published his own take for children on some fairy tales “The Sleeper and the Spindle.”
And then the queen kissed the princess: fairytales get a modern makeover

    ¯\_(?????? ?)_/¯
