This “point” people try to make kinda grinds my gears, as it is [potentially] irrelevant.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hair_color
“Aging
Children born with some hair colors may find it gradually darkens as they grow. Many blond, strawberry blond, light brown, or red haired infants experience this. This is caused by genes being turned off and on during early childhood and puberty.[11]”
Quit being so sure of yourselves. My dad had red hair as a child – it turned fully dark brown by his late 20’s.
All I’m saying is that they could’ve cast anyone and it wouldn’t matter because people’s hair change color as they age.

April 24, 2012 at 7:35 pm #143748hjbauParticipantI was blond as a child and now my hair is brown. I just think reddish is still going to be a little reddish even if it darkens a lot. And i don’t think that August’s hair looks even a little reddish, in my opinion. And freckles don’t go away. The lighten, but they are still there.

April 24, 2012 at 7:52 pm #143755angela___kParticipantI don’t think television, as an art form, would have one of their characters (especially male) just dye their hair. It seems so silly and irrelevant all around.

Hair color, eye color freckles are not that important. We should pay more attention to what they say, do and how many years things occurred. The clothes they wear are important.

That sort of indicates that The adult should bear some resemblance to the child. That’s my only beef.

That’s my problem too. I’m actually beginning to think that the casting directors hired two completely different looking actors just to throw us off. Usually, I like those sorts of tricks, but when the show has already established that they pay close attention to the physical appearance of the characters’ younger counterparts, it makes Pinocchio even that more frustrating. Little Snow looked IDENTICAL to Snow White and Mary Margaret. Everything about her screamed Ginnifer Goodwin. So, why couldn’t the casting director do the same with Pinocchio?

That line actually made me chuckle because I automatically took it as a shoutout to this exact debate amongst the fans. 😉 We know that the powers that be read forums, and August’s appearance had been much debated when people were trying to prove or disprove who he is. So I took that line as a snarky little, “Yep, we see whatchu all argue about,” from the writers. LOL

I wonder if the casting process is a bit different when you’re casting the adult version of a child you already have. Eion wouldn’t have been cast until way after Jakob was, because when they cast Jakob for the pilot, they didn’t even know for sure if the show would get the go ahead.
When it did come to casting for August, they couldn’t merely go on looks, they needed an adult actor who could deliver the character as they wanted him to be, and acting styles vary. Maybe there was someone else who auditioned for the part who looked more like Jakob, but he just wasn’t right for the role, we don’t know. Though I think that despite the hair/eye colour, the actors do actually look very similar.
I think it was freakish good luck when they scored Bailee to play young Snow. Not only did she look like a MiniGinny, but the kid was a brilliant actor who obviously studied Ginny’s mannerisms and was able to incorporate them into her performance, which made the resemblance eerie. That situation is kind of an exceptional case of lucky casting IMO, so I don’t really expect them to hit the jackpot like that again.

As for hair color changing, I was blond as a baby and now a brunette. I was always jealous of my brother’s and sister’s dark hair. Now as an adult it’s darkened and I’m much happier with it. I do have gingers in the family and as they got older it didn’t turn brown, just more a russett or auburn or a snow white color. August’s hair doesn’t look like it’s ever been red to me. And if he’s been travelling and spending time in tropical exotic locals usually your hair lightens up with all the sun exposure. 😕
