The Stranger – Tin Man theory
    * August seems to have spasms in his legs like the tin man in The Wizard of Oz when Dorothy uses the oil can to un-rust him as seen here:

    http://youtu.be/T-RHfXZkT1g

    * We first see August’s legs hurt when he is near the Toll/Troll bridge perhaps because there was water there and his legs were beginning to rust?

    * The tin man needs a heart – who in this story has lots of hearts??!!

    * In Red Handed August talks to Ruby about Lemurs – Lemurs = Monkey! In the Wizard of Oz they have flying monkeys!!!

    * In The Return August stops and looks directly at oil cans in Mr Golds shop as seen here –

    http://www.examiner.com/slideshow/who-is-the-stranger?slide=46455736

    * August was also using a green phone in the return – OZ???

    * August could have left OZ in a hot air balloon like the wizard did for some reason yet to be known??

    * I have also read a theory that either Dorothy or Alice wrote Henry’s book…if it was Dorothy August could have found out about parts of Fairy Tale world from her??

If anyone has anymore ideas please add to it 🙂

He will probably turn out to be Pinocchio but I really really like this theory and want it to come true!!! 🙂

If August needs to stay away from water, why would he be drinking it all the time?

He’s human, he needs some amount of water but his FTL programming (blood memory/instinct) gives him reason to be wary of or flee situations where water would surround him. Much like someone who was traumatized from a drowning incident might begin to have tremors or hesitations to be near water. Perhaps, he also feels a great reverence and respect for the power of water to both, sustain or terminate life thus it is “magical” to him.

I was just watching Tin Man with my boyfriend and thought the actor who plays Tin Man in there looked like one of the dwarfs. But I would buy this theory a lot more than the Pinnochio theory.

I really like him being the tin man. If i could pick today who he was then i pick the tin man though my mind goes through a bunch of possibilities all the time. They also showed an illustration from the wizard of oz in the pilot of Dorthy, the tin man, the scarecrow, and the flying monkeys.

Exactly! I’m hoping those clues actually have some importance to them. But next week's episode title and synopsis make me lose hope. But then again, last week's episode was entitled “The Return” and had the image of a motorcycle riding through the woods in the opeining sequence. But did anyone return? No. Was the episode truly about August? No. So, I'm hoping next week's episode title and synopsis are all just red herrings and we'll find out at the end of the episode that he's actually someone else.

Having said that, the new sneak peek with Pinocchio and Monstro actually looked pretty interesting. I'm actually excited to see their story.

I am resigned to the he is Pinocchio also, but i still want to pick the tin man so i just am. Here is hoping for another red herring and the tin man clues being the real ones.

Im with you on this 🙂 I have fingers & toes crossed for a whopper red herring 😉 .Ive started to go off of August now, just because it’s looking so likely he’s Pinno (I read Pinno as a kid & HATED! him- he was an obnoxious pratt that just wanted to do bad things- even Walt Disney couldnt stand him & so gave him a personality transplant to try make him more likable), so I now cant help but see a kind of off or greedy intention whenever he pops into the story.
I do think Ep 20 FTL story looks interesting tho, doubt it’ll make me a fan of Pinno or his story in the long run, but miracles can happen lol 😉 Pinno not = August would help a little lol :p

It might help because they won’t actually show the story of Pinocchio they will show what happens after that most likely. They don’t usually show the story we know of the characters except Snow’s story.

I have some fairly long posts on August as Tin Man, The White Knight and/or Pinocchio and/or other identities. I also made a post concerning The Oz Phone. So, you might find some ideas and thoughts we have in common there.

Your screen name points to Doctor Who so you may enjoy my unusual but “highly probable” alternate plots and theories OUAT may be something akin to a hybrid version of the BBC’s The Prisoner series, (island village, citizens, spies, eccentrics, altered personalities) but using fairy tales as programming of Monarch Pawns – except Storybrooke is a conversion lab and The Blue Fairy’s “magic,” the psychedelic drug used in conversion. Trust me, it goes on and on and may be waaay off track but if you like intrigue and falling through the bottom of the rabbit hole and beyond, you might enjoy my musings.

There’s a good chance I’m on to something – or parts, thereof. Then, again, OUAT may just be a simple Fairy Tale with name twists – but I’ve a hunch the writers just needed to lure us into believing the story thus far, first, before they reveal the next layer of what’s really going on.

If you’re a Friend of The Doctor, you’ll have a different way of thinking about what is possible – and I’d love your feedback, as well as, anyone else’s who also thinks there might be yet another layer to the onion.
