Something I wondered about. When the hat initially didn’t work and Regina started tossing objects into the hat, she and Jefferson recognized that she needed something with stronger magic. So she then tossed Daniel’s ring into the hat and it worked. Before she tossed it in, there was an image of Daniel inside the ring, which at first I thought was supposed to symbolize his memory.

But I wonder, does Jefferson know something that Regina doesn’t? Does he know something about the value of objects that are cherished to contain greater magic because there may actually be a connection to the person whom the object represents? What if Daniel is still somehow out there and by Regina tossing the ring into the hat she somehow released him into a another realm or freed him from where he was?

It just seemed very surprising to me that she would have just tossed away that ring. I know that it was supposed to show us how dark her sole had become and that she had become so obsessed with revenge that the revenge had become even more important than Daniel’s memory. But the ring just seems like it would have been somehow more significant to me.

I know that we have said that “dead is dead” before but we have actually seen at least one case where this is not true – Jefferson had his head cut off by the Queen of Hearts which should have resulted in death, but didn’t. So maybe having your heart ripped out doesn’t necessary result in death either.

I think the ring just symbolized Daniel’s memory. We know, via EQ and Cora, that a heart can be removed and the person continue to live. We also know that if the removed heart is squeezed and turned to dust, the person dies. I’m thinking Regina just magicked the ring to hold an image of Daniel, but nothing more. It was stonger magic because it was a personal object with a personal connection, not something Regina had collected.

Cora not only ripped out Daniel’s heart but squeezed it till it turned to dust. My man is dead. She did show Snow the grave where Daniel was supposedly buried. Jefferson did get his head cut off but it was reattached and they were in Wonderland. Who knows what properties that world has? People shrink and grow by eating mushrooms and shrubs swallows people.

I thought it was just a magic hologram conjured up by Regina by which to remember Daniel.

You know, when Jefferson said they could pull something in from FTL I thought that Regina’s mind would turn to Daniel instead of the apple! The look on her face seemed to indicate surprise that they could bring something back. Wouldn’t that be awesome if they could pull Daniel AND Graham ‘out of the hat’!?

Well, Jefferson said the object would have to be small enough to fit in a hand. So, can’t pull a person out, living or dead. Also, I assumed it had to be an inanimate object
