I emailed the following to the feedback email address but I wanted to post it for everyone to checkout, I would love to hear what people think of my theory.
So I haven’t heard every podcast yet nor ready every post so forgive me if this theory has already been explored in the past. Here are my thoughts on how magic is going to work in Storybrooke.
My initial reaction to Mr. Gold releasing magic into the town was similar to everyone else. Your going to have everyone walking around with magic in such a proximity that will make Storybrooke more or less unlivable. So then I first starting thinking was how many of these characters actually have magic? As I look through all the characters that were introduced in Season One I see many characters affected by magic in some, way, shape or form. I have also seen many objects both constructed and found in nature that have magical properties. However when you get right down to it who actually has the ability to use magic, an assortment of witches, Rumple(The Dark One), and of course the Fairies? Now ofcourse we have some one-offs: Jefferson who’s magic is purely based on a magical object, his hat, and Ruby with her ware wolf affliction. Sydney is a possibility if the purple cloud restored it because his Genie powers were technically “lost”.
So looking at it from a big picture point of view you have three pillars of magic in the town. What I think may happen is a type of balance of power is established between Gold, the Mayor and the Nuns. In fairy tale land peoples thought process was much different than the normal world. One of your first instincts in solving your problems in FTL was to seek out some sort of magical assistance to resolve it. The Queen and Rumple chose to exploit the “normal” non-magical residents of FTL when they requested help. The Fairies gave magical assistance (when resources permitted), unconditionally.
Flash-forward to Storybrook pre-purple you see a similar division of power occur in town without magic. Regina gained influence and manipulated the town with her political power, Gold gained influence and manipulated the population through his economic and the real-estate power. The Nuns still gave assistance if they could. I see two things happening in the future. Once the three “pillars of power” so to speak, once gaining their abilities in this new world where magic is unpredictable a system of checks and balances develops amongst the three to prevent any one to being the God of magic in Storybrooke. Regina and Gold are less likely to join forces because of their hatred and distrust and the Nuns aren’t going to team up with either one. Another big concept that I think everyone is overlooking is the state of mind of everyone in town who has been living a more or less civilized lifestyle in Storybrooke for the last 28 frozen years and will most likely be using magic is a more last option to resolving their problems knowing of course that “magic has a price”.
Still having the wild cards of Ruby, Hatter, Sydney and of course enchanted objects throughout town will still make for good magical issues interlaced within normal everyday human issues. Everyone knows that the Mayor (if she is still the Mayor for long) and Gold have it in their nature to break the rules for their personal gain and maybe that’s where Emma comes in with her still yet undiscovered powers. We can’t forget the resource problem of the Fairies (Fairy Dust) which means more involvement from the Dwarfs.
As far as flashbacks go I think it would be interesting to flash back to the 28 years of frozen time to see some of the relationships develop and some of the enemy’s made while everyone was living without magic.

I wonder which way they will go with Emma, will Regina want to kill her so they can return to the Enchanted Forest now that everyone’s memories are restored or will Regina want to continue to be in the real world. I don’t know.
Rumpel has the Bae thing, but he only uses his power to do something he wants, so he will only come into play when he wants something to do with Bae or Belle, so his power is less of an issue.
Though if Rumpel decides he wants to kill Regina but Emma, Snow, and Charming don’t want that to happen because they are still trying to return to the Enchanted Forest then Emma, Snow and Charming may decide to protect Regina. This is all dependent on whether or not people actually have magic or can use it and how that all works though. People like Regina and Rumpel weren’t born with magic, they obtained it, so there still may be some issue with that. And the bottle of love was made from Emma’s hair so that may make her have some sort of active magical power or it may just make her passively magic or it could make it so that no one elses magic works against her. We will see.
There are a lot of ways they could go. The problem with the state of being of the characters, living in a fairly peaceful setting for so long, is that everyone is not quite themselves anymore. They are going to be somewhere in between the two people because it seems like they still have both memories.

Regina has DA Albert Spencer or rather King George. Rumple has Belle plus Bae if they find him and Charming has the 7 dwarves, Henry, Granny and Red.

BF is powerful but was pretty much all about protecting FTL itself- not really any one person per-say. From memory we only saw her interact with Jiminy who didn’t seem to be connected to any great event- the rest of the time it was those having a direct impact of the state of their world- like Bae/Dark One, Charmings/ Regina & Nova/Grumpy- those people are affecting many around them (Yes even Nova, had she had given up being a Fairy, she would have given up being a Fairy Godmother which would affect the fairies & people below etc + we dont know what really happens when a Fairy quits, so it may have been more complicated than simply ‘not being a fairy’ any more.
So I think she will do what is required to ‘restore’ (not sure that’s the word/concept I’m looking for there… act in the best interests of) FTL/their world or Magic in general. Which is most likely going to end up siding with the Charmings.

Team Charming; David, Snow, Emma, Henry, the 7 dwarves minus Sneezy because he is just Mr. Clark for now; Pinnochio.Team Regina; Regina, Cora and George,
Team Rumple; Rumple and Belle
The others; Red and Granny who favor Charming; Hopper, BF and Astrid and Whale?, then there is Jefferson and Grace.
Am I missing anybody? if anyone can figue out which team has what members and improve on this’ that would be great….October 17, 2012 at 1:58 pm #157022crest1994ParticipantCora is the main villain of the series. She’s coming to Storybrooke to get revenge. You’re more likely to see a merger/alliance bettween Regina and the Charmings (possibly Gold as well) to confront Cora.
October 17, 2012 at 4:44 pm #157034obisgirlParticipantunless Regina teams up with her mom.
