I’m not the best at this sort of thing, but I’ve been seeing a lot of people talk about who Emma is going to be with next season, or who they think she should be with. Since next season is supposed to give focus on romantic love for Emma, it might be intersting to look at both fan favorites (Mr. Gold/Rumpelstiltskin and Emma. Evil Queen/Regina and Emma), and look at some that the writers have given hints towards (August/Pinocchio and Emma. Graham/Huntsman and Emma. Mad Hatter/Jefferson and Emma). Some theories are impossible, while others are not so–some of the choices I added out of how popular they are.

Neither is Graham because he’s dead. Jefferson drugged Emma and kidnapped her and Mary Margaret so Emma’s not going to be with him.
August/Pinocchio- I don’t like him as a love interest.
Bae- He could be Henry’s father but Emma’s views on Henry’s father are less than favourable. Could be a coincidence that we find out what happened to Bae in the same season Emma gets a love interest.
A normal guy- Are there any normal guys in Storybrooke?
A fairytale character- Perhaps Emma is a fairytale character herself in a Story that hasn’t happened yet.

Since it’s the hiatus, it’s become quite difficult to remember (I also just remembered), but all the info we get for the 2nd season and which we know will happen, because someone of cast&crew said so, is a spoiler! 😮
July 15, 2012 at 4:59 pm #151967JosephineParticipantMaybe someone can move this to the spoiler’s thread.
I picked fairytale character because there’s not much else in Storybrooke at the moment, is there. My only problem with her getting a love interest is that I won’t be too invested in it since in my little world Baelfire is her true love and Henry’s father. But I see the need to have a foil until Bae shows up. Remember, this is my own theories and based on nothing. I’m just set on it happening. I need Henry to be Gold’s grandson.

Yes, I so want her and Bae to be together and have entertaining get togethers like in your Charming White Gold Swan saga. 😀 I think eventually they will, but it probably too soon this season.
At first, I thought the show would go with a love triangle between Bae, Emma, and August to keep Bae and Emma apart longer, but now that Eion Bailey is recurring and no longer a main cast member I’m not sure about this idea anymore.
This got me thinking about the pairings that have true love on the show, and I realized that love triangles didn’t really fit the pattern, which made me think maybe they won’t go that route after all either. Sure there was sort of a triangle between Mary Margaret, David, and Kathryn, but that’s because of the Curse not because it was a true love triangle. So it seems to me that if a couple is really meant to be on the show (ie, Rumbelle, Snowing, Abigail/Frederick, Grumpy/Nova), they’ll be kept apart by other obstacles besides a love triangle because then it wouldn’t be true love I guess if the other person felt something for someone else too. Of course, this doesn’t mean that if Bae/Emma are each other’s true loves that they couldn’t use a love triangle as an obstacle, but I think given their past history plus Emma finding out that Bae is Rumple’s son might be enough obstacles to keep them apart for awhile.
Of course, it’s possible that maybe Emma starts to or has some feelings for August, but then Bae comes back, and she realizes that whatever she feels for August can’t compare to the feelings she still has for Bae.
July 16, 2012 at 1:30 am #151990lilredParticipantAugust: I think they could and might develop this next season, but their relationship just didn’t seem romantic to me. I don’t read them as flirty and their ‘date’ didn’t seem to try to set them up as a possible couple: just introduced the well into the plot. Could see them as partners in crime, BFF, sibling-like but not each other’s true love…
Regina:……..
Rumple: This would make my headcanon even more like a soap opera…
Jefferson: Well, he acted like a complete spaze/head case their one episode together…helped Regina retrieve an apple…held mother captive….drugged her tea….if she WOULD ever agree to be alone with him, MAYBE???
I’m not sure Grace’s mom is dead and not just ‘lost’ somewhere: Jefferson may still have a true love to find. Then again, this character is labeled ‘love interest’ not Emma’s true love.
Graham: We tried that already. He died.
Baelfire: I think I need to write a ship-manifesto about how much I love the idea of Bae being Emma’s true love, but not convinced he’s the ‘love interest’ for this season. I think he’ll be introduced and play an antagonist for Emma this season, but one or both of them will have a ways to go and probably date other people. I want this romance, but I want it to be a slow burn: building up over time as the two butt heads over and over again. For Emma, though, throwing snarking comments at a guy is probably courtn’ so maybe I can have it all!
A Normal Guy: So overrated.
A Fairytale Character: I’m with Josephine: I see her dating a foil to Baelfire next year, maybe a fairytale character who’s story hadn’t happened yet in EF/ hasn’t found his true love let. Probably nice and both will have a relatively stable, happy relationship: but in the end, it won’t be true love.July 16, 2012 at 4:43 pm #152115PriceofMagicParticipant@Lil’Red wrote:

You have a point. It is too early in the series for Emma to have a true love unless they plan on killing him off.

Keeper of FelixJuly 16, 2012 at 5:04 pm #152123lilredParticipantHadn’t thought about that, but Storybrooke is heading for war: her love interest (whoever it is) is going to be walking around with a target on their head. Since Emma’s had such a dysfunctional love life, I don’t see them killing her true love, but that probably isn’t going to be revealed until the end of the series. Let her have a normal-ish, adult dating life for awhile or at least attempt to.
July 16, 2012 at 5:35 pm #152131PriceofMagicParticipantI keep switching between Bae being dead and being alive and grown up but if Bae was Emma’s love interest then they would have a lot in common.
Both would have abandonment issues.
Both would have to get used to their parents being back in their lives again.
Both had to make their own way in the world. All magic comes with a price!
Keeper of FelixJuly 16, 2012 at 9:29 pm #152139lilredParticipantBae being dead just feels anti-climatic for me, but I’m sure would bring beautiful, heart-breaking acting from Carlyle. 😥
Before the latest information came out, I was pretty sure about a grown up Baelfire next season. Now, part of me is wondering…
I agree with you PriceofMagic, If he is an adult, even if he’s not Henry’s dad, I think a relationship would be interesting between Emma and Bae because of the baggage they carry.
