The summary confirms that Emma and Mary Margaret have disappeared from SB (probably to another world). I’m going to guess Oz, just because it was hinted at in S1. Also, I suppose none of the fairy-tale characters can leave SB, despite the curse being lifted. Interesting!

I’m not really sure where they traveled too. I think they might go back in time because it seems like Aurora, Prince Phillip, and Mulan keep popping up in these earlier episodes, and it seems their stories took place in the past in Fairy Tale Land. I also thought that they were saving Oz to later on this season, but I could be wrong about reading that somewhere.
I already figured that the characters wouldn’t be able to leave Storybrooke at least right now because it would make the show more difficult if you had some characters in Boston, some that traveled to the west coast, some that traveled to another continent, etc., since they’re all still trying to break the Curse and defeat the villains, but it’s nice to have confirmation of that for sure. Eventually I’m sure they’ll explore the idea of at least one character that was Cursed, being able to leave Storybrooke, but for now I think that there’s so much for them to do, it just makes it easier to keep most everyone contained in the same place.

Based on the pictures this description was what i thought was happening in storybrooke, but they don’t mention the hatter and the destruction. I am assuming all the destruction in town happens at the end of ep 1 when Emma and Snow vanish.
September 16, 2012 at 12:59 pm #153970PheeParticipantSo in ep 2 we get Aurora and Mulan again…but no Phillip? Hmmm.
Nice to have clarification that they still can’t leave. Wonder who’ll be the one who tries to?
I wanna say that Snow and Emma will be zapped back to FTL history, because it could be interesting to see adultSnow witnessing what was going on with Regina when she (Snow) was a little girl.
But then, if Hook has found his way to SB, and I don’t think he was there the whole time, that could mean that there’s a weakened barrier between worlds, so if he can go from Neverland to SB, perhaps they could go from SB to any world.
September 16, 2012 at 1:09 pm #153971hjbauParticipantIt almost seems like Emma and Snow are with Aurora, Mulan, and Phillip in the past. And that would go along with them being people Maleficent’s age instead of Snow’s.
September 16, 2012 at 1:25 pm #153973PheeParticipantAdam and Eddy did say that they had an interesting way of introducing the new characters. Having them meet up with a time travelling Emma and Snow would be pretty interesting and unexpected.
September 17, 2012 at 7:10 pm #153995SlurpeezParticipantHere is a longer, more complete episode summary for 2×2:
“We Are Both” – While Regina continues to find a way to regain her magical powers, David continues his quest to uncover the whereabouts of Mary Margaret and Emma; and the seven dwarves discover what happens when any of the townspeople try to step past the city limits of Storybrooke. Meanwhile, in the fairytale land that was, as her wedding day to King Leopold approaches, Regina is confronted by a man of magic who promises to help her become independent and break free from her mother Cora’s (Barbara Hershey) clutches, on “Once Upon a Time,” SUNDAY, OCTOBER 7 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.
“Once Upon a Time” stars Ginnifer Goodwin as Snow White/Mary Margaret, Jennifer Morrison as Emma Swan, Lana Parrilla as Evil Queen/Regina, Josh Dallas as Prince Charming/David, Emilie de Ravin as Belle, Jared S. Gilmore as Henry Mills, Meghan Ory as Red Riding Hood/Ruby, and Robert Carlyle as Rumplestiltskin/Mr. Gold.
Guest starring are Raphael Sbarge as Archie Hopper/Jiminy Cricket, Lee Arenberg as Leroy/Grumpy, David Anders as Dr. Whale, Tony Amendola as Marco/Geppetto, Barbara Hershey as Cora, Keegan Connor Tracy as Mother Superior/Blue Fairy, Tony Perez as Valet/father, Beverley Elliott as Granny, Sarah Bolger as Aurora, Jamie Chung as Mulan, David-Paul Grove as Doc, Gabe Khouth as Mr. Clark/Sneezy, Faustino Di Bauda as Walter/Sleepy, Jeffrey Kaiser as Dopey, Michael Coleman as Happy, Mig Macario as Bashful, Sebastian Stan as Jefferson and Bailee Madison as young Snow White.
“We Are Both” was written by Jane Espenson and directed by Dean White. http://www.ksitetv.com/once-upon-a-time/once-upon-a-time-2-2-we-are-both-full-spoiler-description/16227
It seems like we may be dealing with three strands of story-telling: Storybrooke, MM and Emma’s adventures in an alternate realm, and FTL in the past when Regina met Rumplestiltksin! That’s going to make for some confusing, yet highly entertaining juggling.
It seems like MM and Emma are in FTL in the past. Perhaps they travel there the way that Regina used Jefferson’s hat to reach into her backstory with Snow White to reach the poisoned apple in episode 1×21. If Emma and MM can go to the past FTL, I still think it would disrupt events, so they’d have to be highly careful. If you’ve ever heard of the “Butterfly effect” it basically says that changing even one molecule can change the entire course of history, including the fate of Emma. Imagine if MM and PC never got together. If you’ve read Harry Potter book 3 (or seen the movie), Harry and Hermione use a magic watch to travel to the past, but they have to be extremely careful not to interfere with their past selves, because doing so could have catastrophic consequences. If the writers think of a similar scenario, I might see time travel as possible.

So we know that the 7 dwarves are the characters that try to see what happens when they go past the city limits of Storybrooke, and I think it can be assumed that Rumple is the man of magic who promises to help Regina become independent of her mother Cora.
We also know that wherever Emma and Snow are, at least Emma, won’t be in this episode that much because she’s only in 4 scenes in the second episode.
September 17, 2012 at 7:38 pm #153998hjbauParticipantFour scenes is not completely insignificant. I mean Rumpel is a lot of times in only one or two. I think that Emma and Snow are with Aurora and Mulan.
I think that Emma was in only five scenes in An Apple Red as Blood and her presence seems significant to me in that episode.

I didn’t say her scenes were insignificant. I just was commenting that she’ll only be in 4 scenes per the spoilers that are out there.
