We heard Rumpelstiltskin/Mr. Gold refer to himself as still being the “dark one” and yet magic didn’t make him look like a reptile in SB. Does the curse work differently since magic here is different? Also, we saw the much-anticipated kiss between Belle and Rumpel, but it didn’t affect his power as the dark one. Why do you think this is?

Well, magic is unpredictable in this world….. Honestly I’m not sure. I hope they explain it and don’t leave us wondering.

My guess is that magic has a new set of rules, and we have yet to figure out these rules yet.

I think magic works differently in this world. Rumpel remained human, Ruby isn’t a wolf and Archie isn’t a cricket. So, I guess this world doesn’t work like the old one. Which is a good thing and a bad thing. On the up side, it will be difficult to use magic. And on the down side, it will be difficult to use magic. Catch 22. 😆

I’m kind of glad they changed up the rules, true love’s kiss was beginning to become too much of a cure all. But if that doesn’t work anymore (in general) does that mean that Emma is running off a different set of rules then everyone else when it comes to magic? She cured Henry and she gave Regina back magic. K&H said that magic was like currency, but does that mean Emma is working on a different set as everyone else (like trying to use $ in Europe or vice versa)?

i think Emma’s magic is different then everyone elses. I keep wondering if Regina is going to just have her magic from now on, which seems to be the case, or if she was just like given magic in the moment, but it still won’t exactly work properly. If Regina is the only one with magic and it just works exactly right that is sort of annoying.

Well if magic is a sort of currency usually stored in objects (which is my theory right now) I think Emma only gave her so much if that makes sense. Eventually Regina will run out again. But think of how many magic objects Rumple has in his shop… an almost unlimited supply.

I like the idea that Regina was just given a charge by Emma touching her. I hope that is the case, but i am not so sure.

It’s my opinion that Mr. Gold does not have his powers back, that is why he does not look like the Rumple of old, and that is why he can kiss Belle and not lose his powers (since he does not have powers). He, like anyone, can use magically objects, like the wraith medallion and the Dark One’s dagger, but he does not “have” magic in him. I’m sure he is not too concerned about this at the moment, as others have pointed out that his shop is probably full of magical items. This is also why his castle in FTL was full of magical objects from other magical humans and creatures. He had already had a long range plan of gathering these objects and having them nearby (along with the true love potion) for when the curse was in-acted, and everyone would be sent to a non-magical place.

Going forward, if Emma does touch Mr. Gold, he will get his powers & gold appearance back (for a period of time). I still don’t think her touch is a permanent recharging of one’s magical abilities, only a temporary charge (like charging a battery). If Emma does touch Mr. Gold, then he becomes powerful again, but also susceptible to permanently losing his powers if kissed by his true love, Belle. Although, I’m sure Gold won’t let himself be kissed until his agenda of revenge against his enemies is complete, and he has his son by his side.

is agenda of revenge against his enemies is complete, and he has his son by his side.

And therein lies the true problem for Gold. I doubt Bae (and Belle) will stay by his side as long as he is driven by revenge. I don’t see a way for Gold to have his cake and eat it too, and although I might be in the minority with this, I really don’t want to. After all, “Love is sacrifice.” If he had both it would be Belle and Bae who were sacrificing their morals to be with him.
