Hook seemed to know a lot about what happened during the giant wars and Jack. Do you think he could have been a veteran of them? I mean he picked out Jack really easily out of the corpses AND he seemed to know about the sword. It just seems to me that he knew more than just what would have made it into legends plus there was just something in his voice when he told Emma that that’s where the battle was.

I think there’s a chance that maybe he had some involvement, but I think he’s more likely familiar because he is one of the humans who stole beans from the giants before they stopped making them. Which is why he would have had a bean for Smee to find on the ship.

We’ve got the Giant & Jack’s backstories; we’ve got Milah & Rumple’s backstories; we’ve got Victor Frankenstein & his brother’s backstories; and the list goes one. Talk about opening doors! 😀

Don’t remind me, Golden. The pain of not seeing Jefferson’s doors last week still haunts me. 🙁

November 6, 2012 at 7:01 am #159749melliemdParticipantWell they were portal jumpers, so even if she came from the Asian world we see in Jefferson’s doors she could be totally familiar with them. I really wish we could get to know Mulan more.

Yes, I don’t think that Hook was a veteran of any Giant wars, he just knew about them because of how famous Jack was.
I do have a theory though as to why Jorge Garcia might pop back up. Since in the original story, the Giant had a wife, but in this story he didn't have anyone, I think that Team Princess will find another giant probably the only other one in existence, who will also happen to be a female, and the Giant will owe Emma another favor which will be giving her a magic bean since I think there are beans left. Just a feeling because Team Princess will need to find some way back to Storybrooke if the impostor theory is true, and I think that either there's more beans or the one around the Giant's neck might actually still be able to work.

The “natural” function for the concentrated magic that people use to open portals between realms might be to create magical beings. In the episode, we heard that the giants make the beans (the episode used the word “make”, not “grow” or “cultivate” or whatever), and we heard that humans are responsible for the destruction of the beans and of the giants.

We (in the United States) see a bunch of this in our own public school system history books. What we learn isn’t necessarily the truth. Hook advised that the Giant’s destroyed the bean, but the giant claimed the humans did. Wonder who is telling the truth. Interesting the writers chose to include this in the story.
I love how the writers grey up the lines.
