OKAY you tech savy people… please explain what is TUMBLER and how is it used? I have been to a couple of TUMBLER sites but can not them out. Looks like a complicated mish mash of stuff thrown on a web page.

    THANKS

it pretty much is exactly that. Whatever springs to people minds, they post it there, just because. Sometimes the tumblers are themed – for example someone is a great fan of OUaT so they will post on their tumbler whatever they can find on the show – news, pictures, etc.
In a way, it’s a type of a blog but with this added extra bit of randomness…

I love my tumblr. I started with a livejournal (which cross-posts from my dreamwidth) but I love my tumblr. the interface isn’t difficult to use. my only complain would be — is that the frame where you paste text to make a post is too small. which is bad when editing long fanfics.

And I didn’t know about this until this week but you can install custom themes on the dashboard. I currently have Red/Ruby on mine. it be can be used to make website blogs (which is so much easier and cheaper because you don’t have to pay for hosting, or search for a decent host).

    I love it.

I have a tumblr too, but I haven’t updated it in a long time. I just used it to upload my work that was too explicit for other sites until I made my own blog lol :p

    .
SO basically TUMBLER is just a blog site. I think I get confused by the themes that people pick for their blog. I use word press and blogger for my hobby blogs as it free. I like the formats because I could figure them out. ( totally non techy here)

As a reader/ viewer I have a hard time with tumble because many people pick the dark colors for posting with little or no contrast with the text. I also hate the blogs with too small of fonts… I think in the future we will have a bunch of blind people in this country…. all from eye strain. I also do not care for the flashing gifs because it eats up bandwidth when you are on the site. I do not have the ability to stop the gifs. I also notice I get a headache if I watch them for a long time….. I MUST BE GETTING OLD.

    Nonnie,

I have run across blogs where they use turquoise text on a white background and I have to copy and paste the text to word, reformat everything just to read it properly. that’s when I roll my eyes. blinking text is annoying too. there are some html crazes that should have died in the 90s, along with the 90s but some people still use them.

in any event, tumblr is free to use. you can pay to use premium themes but why would you when there many beautiful free customizable themes available?
