I was wondering just exactly what sort of power that dagger now has over Rumple. They were in a world without magic prior to the curse being broken. Rumple has now brought some magic in Storybrooke. However, he is able to kiss Belle without losing his powers which wasn’t the case in the Enchanted Forest. So, is he really still the Dark One? Or, has that curse been lifted now that they are out of the Enchanted Forest and is the dagger no longer a threat?

He was able to use it to summon the Wraith, so there must still be some power in it. The curse doesn’t appear to have a complete hold over him now though. I’m hoping we get some clarification on this at some point.
Gypsy and I were just chatting about this and the conversation between Gold & AWB in the return where Gold says to AWB:
Gold “this knife cannot harness any magic in this world, because there is no magic in this world.”
AWB: “So why bury a useless knife?”
Gold: “Oh, I wouldn’t say it was useless. It still cuts through flesh rather nicely.”Yet, as you stated Phee, it wielded power with the Wraith.
If the dagger is beginning to hold power due to magic being back, can one would assume that it could be deadly in the hands of someone as powerful as Cora?
Yet, the curse was the curse to end all curses. So, does that mean Rumple’s curse, as the Dark One, is over? While he still has powerful magic, is he no longer the Dark One thus the dagger can’t hurt him, other than a flesh wound? It might even explain why Belle’s kiss doesn’t affect him because he’s already reverted from the Dark One. However, can another Dark One still emerge as the dagger itself holds power?
So many questions. You are right Phee, Certainly hope we do get clarification soon.

I would think that if Rumple still had the full power of the Dark One he would be able to just rip Hook’s heart out and not bother wasting time beating him with his cane.
I think that he still is the Dark One in name but the Curse doesn’t have the same hold in Storybrooke as it does in Enchanted Forest. If he went back to Enchanted Forest, I think he would be the dark one all the way again.
I see Rumple’s power as being layered. He had the Dark One powers when Bae was lost but Blue Fairy told him the curse was beyond his capabalites…
Blue Fairy: Well, then I’ll comfort myself knowing that such a curse is beyond your abilities.
Rumpelstiltskin: Oh, for now. But I’ve got all the time in the world. I will do nothing else, I will love nothing else. I will find a way. You took my son, but I will get him back.
So he gained new powers in order to be able to create the curse. Maybe the the powers he has right now are those extra ones that aren’t tied into the Dark One curse. So, I don’t think even with magic in Storybrooke the dagger will be able to control him.
The only way Rumple became immortal was through the curse of the dagger…if he is still immortal or immortal again I would think that the curse was reactivated through the bringing of magic to our world. He’s still the Dark One…he’s just been able to make better decisions with Belle’s help imo.
We don’t know if he is immortal still…he was frozen in time like everyone else for 28 years but now that time is moving again he could be aging. We have heard people say he was immortal…Emma told Hook in the hospital for example but do they know for sure? If he is still immortal and still the Dark One then why didn’t Belle’s kiss break that curse? They have kissed since magic was brought back. So technically, he shouldn’t have those powers anymore. Is it possible that he is only partially the Dark One? If so, which parts/powers? How does that affect the daggers powers…
I was basing it on what Emma said…her assumption is that he is indeed immortal but you are correct we really don’t know that for sure however I wouldn’t put it past the writers to let her saying that be their way of confirming it…they’ve been leaving a lot open like that lately.
As for Belle’s true love’s kiss…one of the big mysteries of OUaT for me personally…it’s supposed to be able to break any curse and yet Rumple resisted when she first kissed him…I’m beginning to wonder if the one who is cursed is unwilling to give up their curse that even true loves kiss might not be able to break it. If that were true, Belle kissing him might not matter…either that or he has perfected a way to resist. Then again maybe true loves kiss and just kissing are two separate things. We certainly don’t see that wind affect every time MM and David kiss. Really just thinking out loud on this…they haven’t made it too clear at least imo.
You bring up some good points! I agree that they could be using the other characters mentioning his immortality as a reminder to the viewers. But as always we can’t be 100% sure until we see it. I wonder what make the difference between True Love’s kiss and just kissing….good question.
It will be interesting to see how these answers play into Rumple’s and the dagger’s powers since they are all connected.
Still so many gray areas. Hopefully, all will be addressed at some stage of the game. I can only imagine the flowcharts filled with facts that are sitting in those creative offices. How do they ever keep track of everything! Hopefully, now that we know Cora will get her hands on the dagger, we may get a few answers.
