With titles like Second Star to the Right and And Straight On ‘Til Morning, Once Upon A Time fans have been buzzing that the final two episodes of the season would introduce, at long last, Peter Pan and Neverland. Something ABC semi-confirmed this morning when they released the opening act of next Sunday’s penultimate episode [watch that here] where young Baelfire meets Wendy Darling … in Victorian England!
The sneak peek also introduces an intriguing new entity known as The Home Office, a mysterious organization that tasked Tamara and Greg to Storybrooke for a still-unknown purpose.
This morning, Once Upon A Time creators Adam Horowitz and Eddie Kitsis met with reporters for a roundtable discussion about those aforementioned developments, what the final two episodes have in store for fans and their biggest season two regret!
Hooked on Neverland
The next two episodes are, in many ways, one prolonged story with both installments focusing on Baelfire’s backstory, and how he could become Peter Pan. “We’ve hinted that Baelfire knew somebody from the world of Peter Pan and we know that he has a weird connection to this person,” Kitsis told us. “And this person will be seen and he has beautiful guyliner … and a shiny hand.” He added, “The finale is very Hook-centric in the flashback.”What Is The Home Office?
In the clip, Tamara talks about sending the magic beans and Regina’s black diamond back to The Home Office for analysis. The creators promise fans will learn what The Home Office is and what they’re after, but not why they want it over the next two episodes. Eddie adds, “We’ve all been trained with Initiatives and secret organizations, [so] we’re hoping to lead you down a different path.”The same goes for Tamara and Greg. “By the end of this season, you will know a lot more about what Greg and Tamara are trying to achieve, who they’re working for and what that means for all our characters,” Adam says. “They’re here for a mission and whether or not they succeed in that mission will be in the finale.”
How Final Will The Finale Be?
In last night’s episode, Regina revealed that there is, effectively, a self-destruct button for the curse. One that would destroy everybody in Storybrooke and reset the timeline. “Unfortunately for Regina, she’s now strapped to a table and the two people who have it seem hellbent on getting rid of this town,” Eddie says, before revealing, “We are definitely going to see what that black diamond does because you can’t show a bomb and not have it go off.”Familiar Faces Will Return
The next two episodes will also see the return of Mulan, Aurora and Prince Phillip, the creators revealed. But there are a couple characters OUAT fans will never see. “We are not bringing Star Wars on, other than the ringtones,” Eddie says about ABC’s parent company acquiring rights to the Star Wars universe. “There are no huger fans of Star Wars than [Eddie and I], Adam continued. “[But] the way we’ve conceived the show sadly never included Star Wars. And I don’t think it should.”Biggest Season Two Regret
Eddie and Adam also took a moment to address a major fan complaint this season: The Tasing of Pinocchio. “Here’s the thing, we thought, ‘We need a real world weapon.'” In the moments in making that decision we never realized the backlash that would be from a taser,” Eddie emphatically said. “We just figured the audience assumed it wasn’t a taser … but they didn’t. So I got a lot of history lessons about wood and conducting electricity. If I could go back one season and change one thing, I would have made it a syringe. If she had just taken a [glowing] syringe and shoved it into the dragon, no one would give a ….[adrotate group="5"]"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"April 29, 2013 at 10:35 pm #189817RumplesGirlKeymasterFew thoughts
1) It’s a black diamond. Any fairy tales about black diamonds? Pretty sure they are supposed to be rare and special. Wonder where Regina got it from.2) “Home office” Sounds British. I’m liking the idea of the Darlings have set up the Home Office to search for their daughter Wendy but over the years it has become an organization to eradicate magic.
3) Poor A and E re: the tazer. They really did catch a lot of flack for that.
4) Oh SB is totally disappearing for good.

Well, I expected SB would vanish when I heard Regina had a self-destruct button. Also, I would be surprised for the fail-safe not to be activated after having been introduced and now having fallen into enemy hands of GOAT.

April 29, 2013 at 10:38 pm #189819RumplesGirlKeymasterSearching for some black diamond information. Came across this.
Black, or carbonero, diamonds carry their own wealth of superstitious beliefs. Ancient Indian culture perceived black diamonds as similar to the eye of a snake and associated them with Yama, the god of death.
But traditional Italian society held that black diamonds have the power to reconcile fighting or estranged couples. If both partners touched a black diamond, their troubles would disappear.
In Borneo, if a diamond contained a gray or black inclusion, the well in which it was found was abandoned. According to Malaysian belief, these gray or black inclusions represented the diamond’s soul, and if it were removed from the mine the mine would “die.”http://www.avipaz.com/DiamondMythology

I’m holding onto hope that Baelfire could have become Peter Pan at some point. *Crosses fingers*

Same. If “Pan” is a title for the leader of the Lost Boys then at some point Peter could have left NL and elected Bae to become the new Pan. This would also open up the door to a hostile relationship between Hook and Bae if Rumple’s son is the new Pan, provided that Hook finds out about Bae’s identity at some point.

Re: the taser – they have gotten tons of flack for that. 🙁 They’ve been saying for so long that their fans are smart (even though the network staff loves to dumb stuff down for us; sometimes ahead of time in promos) and then they have this moment of assuming we are smart enough to realize that’s not a normal taser and people attacked them for it because it was the instrument that caused something to happen they didn’t want and didn’t behave like normal ones would. =/ With this show anything is possible and most things have an explanation! Just not necessarily the very first time we’re introduced to something.
I think one of the main issues is that they have something happen and leave that thread hanging for later when it makes sense to tell that part of the story based on what is going on in future episodes and people mistakeningly call them plot holes. They’re not plot holes, they’re threads and some of them are even addressed in the very next episode! (Not the taser though, hoping we get that one soon).
A good example of this is Hook’s hook being enchanted. We heard him say he took Aurora’s heart but for the rest of the week all we heard about was that no version of Peter Pan ever had Hook having magic, and then the next ep showed us how he got the one-time enchantment on the hook.
The writers aren’t perfect, but they do tie up a LOT of the dangling threads, even if it sometimes takes awhile to get back to it. It’s not a procedural case of the week type thing where there would legitimately be plot holes. We KNOW we’re getting the flashback stories in bits & pieces, so while a lot of other stuff we’d love to see gets cut for time reasons, the WEAVING OF THREADS happens overtime, out of order, and in surprising ways. It’s part of the charm of the show and unless there’s something completely contradictory (in which case most of us are just waiting around to see how they’re going to explain the discrepancy), I wish people wouldn’t jump all over them, especially for things we’re clearly going to be seeing again ie: Tamara’s taser since it’s her weapon of choice apparently. If they gave each person’s entire story in one dose we wouldn’t have a show. Have a little faith & hope!
As for the rest: SUPER excited about some Hook backstory (hoping to see things that were mentioned in Tallahassee for sure!) and am happy to see young Bae again as I much prefer him to NealFire. Perhaps the transition between the two will help a TON. (I really do adore young Bae). I’m still in the NealFire Pan camp and maybe whatever happened to Bae in Neverland will make me appreciate the older one more, especially if they do go SwanFire for endgame (I liked that idea much more when all we knew was young Bae – kinda torn on if I like it now for what it actually is or just the connections it makes to Rumple at this point).
Hoping for some CaptainSwan moments in this big finale too. There were TOO many threads that hinted at interesting events in Neverland and the possibility of CaptainSwan from their interactions in Tallahassee and I want to see those play out bigtime. We haven’t gotten much at all since then for them without Cora interfering by being there and now that Neverland is on the horizon Hook should be more central to whatever is going on with the main characters including Emma, especially if the finale is Hook-backstory-centric. It’s about time, he’s been around all season! (And don’t bother giving me any of that hate-all-the-new-characters stuff, he was always meant to be a part of it from the beginning, it was a rights issue, not a shiny new toy and he’s been absent for weeks).
Looks like they’re planning to wrap around to the beginning of the season by bringing M/A/P back so yay for that, we haven’t seen any of them in awhile and that all needs to be wrapped up. VERY excited to see how they get Phillip back in this because I was adament from Broken that he could be saved and they’ve been gone long enough – one of the main criticisms has been that new characters get brought in and disappear – then we finally get a nice long story arc and they get criticized for that too, but these threads have been dangling all season and I for one am excited to reunite Phillip with Aurora (what is their ship name? He was on for so short a time I don’t even know! But they’ve been through enough trying to save each other, time to see them reunited).
Hoping SB won’t be gone for good as I’ve grown rather attached to it but I am looking forward to exploring other possibilities like time spent in Neverland and eventually (hopefully) rebuilding FTL. They’ve mentioned multiple times that various characters are keen to go back and rebuild and I’d love to see that. Especially since the glimpse we got of present day FTL has a lot of work to do. Would love to see Charming get to walk back through the nursery since Snow & Emma did, and I can’t wait to see Henry there, getting to see it all for the first time. Just gotta avoid those ogres.

April 30, 2013 at 12:36 am #189842RumplesGirlKeymasterI agree with a lot of what you said Kat, especially the loose thread stuff. They do wrap up those dangling threads, in their own time. The problem, I think for casual viewers, is that they expect answers the very next episode. Sometimes I say we live in a post-LOST world where people aren’t as willing to sit through season after season getting a few answers here and there. Because they expect answers faster and then aren’t getting them in what they consider to be a timely manner, they are leaving the show. It happened with “V” and “Flashfoward” (the latter of which I really enjoyed). “Fringe” was almost cancelled several times but a very loyal fan base kept it afloat for 5 years.
I want A and E to tell their story the way they want, cause I’ll wait as long as it takes for answers. But I do hope they streamline S3 a bit more.Looks like they will wrap up MAP this season and if the end plays out like many predict (the core going to NL and the others going to FTL) it will be back to just focusing on the CharmingStiltskins, Regina and Hook with FTL flashbacks/NL flashbacks. I expect that Tamara and Greg will be wrapped up half way through S3 and the rest of the season will be about some new problem in Neverland (perhaps a mermaid kingdom that is being attacked by a purple squid..)
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"April 30, 2013 at 12:53 am #189851MysteryKat25ParticipantArgh, I can’t figure out how to embed the tweet (the code I thought would work is just showing up as code) but the guy who did that article tweeted a pic from the article in printed format with an interesting picture of Hook & young Bae which made me very very happy! It wasn’t included in the link to the article (different picture was shown) but apparently goes with it so thought I’d add it here since it all relates and I couldn’t find a thread about the tweet elsewhere.
Any ideas on how to add that in here? I tried to get the embed (media included) code thing and it just kept putting the code into the preview text…
