I thought it might be interesting to compare and contrast the actors’ characters in OUAT to their characters in other shows.Just to bring up a few to get it rolling:When I first saw David Anders(Frankenstein),it was in a show called Alias. He played a terrorist mastermind named Julian Sark.Very, very ruthless, yet also witty and charming in a dangerous way. Then there’s Viktor Frankenstein–well-meaning,kind of lost in life,a bit of a sleaze in his cursed form,a loving and devoted brother. What do you guys prefer him as?Nova(Amy Acker) was also on Alias. She went from ruthless killer assassin in Alias to sweet, endearing, and clumsy fairy who wears a pink jellyfish costume.I’ve seen Ginnifer Goodwin in Win a Date with Tad Hamilton.Fairly different from Snow,I’ll say.Belle vs. Claire.Rumple vs.Rush.Comments?Good points, bad points?

May 11, 2013 at 12:50 pm #193141RumplesGirlKeymasterAmy Acker was also in Angel, the spin off of cult favorite Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She played Fred/Illyria. I really loved her there. She was a super smart physicist who had been trapped in another world and had pretty much lost her mind. I also saw her on Alias.
David Anders was also on Heroes for season 2-4. Played a (mostly) bad guy, which he seems to relish. He was fantastic as Stark.
Ginny Goodwin was on Big Love though I personally haven’t seen it, but I do know it was very different from her role as Snow.
Emilie (Belle) was also in Roswell, the short lived teenage cult classic up there with Buffy and Dawson’s Creek. I think it may have been one of her first acting roles because you can hear her trying to mask her accent and not doing a great job at it. I hated her character but loved her. And Claire. Of course Claire. LOST was basically my existence for 6 years and Claire/Charlie was a fantastic little romance.
Bobby as Rush on Stargate: Universe was the only good thing about that show in my opinion. I love the SG franchise but SG:U was a mess. But RC’s performance as Rush was really great. The man can do anything.
JMo was of course on House for the first 6-ish seasons. I loved her. LOVED. Alison Cameron was my favorite character. She was also in the new Star Trek movie, though briefly as Kirk’s mom.
Lee Arenberg (Grumpy) was in the Pirates franchise (he’s the one who says ‘ello Poppet) and to this day I’m still waiting to hear him say “I hate pirates” or something to give a nice nod to the PotC movies.
Jorge Garcia (Anton) was on LOST as Hurley. One of my favorite comedic moments in LOST comes from Hurley in the first season when he’s yelling at the crazy French woman Rousseu about the monster in the jungle and he yells, “maybe it’s a PISSED OFF GIRAFFE!!” He was fantastic.
Alan Dale (George) was also a guest star on LOST as the devious and terrible Widmore. He kept Desmond and Penny apart. He deserved to be beaten for that alone.
Sebastian Stan (Jefferson) appeared occasionally on Gossip Girl. Like him much more on ONCE. Of course he’s also in the Captain America movies.
Lana was in one episode of LOST but other than that, I hadn’t seen her in anything before this."He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"May 11, 2013 at 12:52 pm #193142RumplesGirlKeymasterLooking back at this list I just typed out, it’s very possible that one of the (many) reasons I love this show so much is that I’ve seen so many of the actors in other places before and really loved them there. They really did hit the jackpot with this cast.
It’s also possible that I watch far too much television.

I almost agree–he was the best thing on that show, but it also had Ming Na (but her storylines were weak, she had fewer good scenes, but she had a few). I was kind of hoping with Mulan they’d be able to get Ming Na as a guest star on OUAT, since she did the voice for Mulan in the movie and had done SG U with RC. Also if we need Anton to find out he has a cousin giant, the guy who played Eli did a good job of dorky vulnerability.
The rest of that show? Yes….I call it the /sigh fi channel sometimes instead of SYFY.Also–RC …someone has to mention his role as Gaz in the Full Monty. He plays a down-on-his luck steel mill worker who needs a job, as he’s behind on child support to his ex-wife. Like Rumple, he loves his son, but doesn’t know how to do the right thing to connect with him. Unlike Rumple, he doesn’t become the master of dark power–no his idea to put on a strip tease show like the Chippendales (where in, he goes for the whole reveal aka the Full Monty).
Raphael Sbarge who plays Jimminy did a voice role so I had heard him before–he did the voice for Kaden in the Mass Effect video game. The game has a storyline, where you can choose to interact in various ways with the characters to create tiny shifts in the story. Kaden is the 2nd in command and depending on what you choose (say a female player character) he can be the sensitive and supportive type or the annoying sidekick you can’t wait to kick off your ship. Jimminy is sort of along those lines, I suppose.

Oh SYFY channel. I love the concept, being a scifi fanatic, but sometimes I want to smack you upside the head. There are beautiful things about you: I maintain that the reboot of BSG is one of the finest examples of science fiction on tv in a very long time, and quirky shows like Eurkea and Warehouse 13 are great. And even your newest venture with Defiance has a lot of potential (mostly cause it’s a bizarre mix of several other sci fi shows…). But then you go and do mash ups of aliens and dinosaurs and giant spiders and I just sigh and look away.

I’ve never seen it. I want to but I fear that I won’t be able to look at Rumple the same way.

I’ve played a bit of the thirs one on brothers PS3.Pretty good game.Never been into sic-fi,but that one was pretty good the way they had all the different choices of storyline the player can make.

Yes….I call it the /sigh fi channel sometimes instead of SYFY.I only watched the first 15 minutes…I started zoning out when they started talking of hyperspace, speed of light, starship, something, something, and something else. The only reason I switched it on was to see Robert.I thought oit would have awesome if they had Ming Na for Mulan!!!!!!!!!!Also,Josh dallas was in Thor, directed by Kenneth Branagh.I do not remember who he played though……

Funny you should say this, because while Once did such an exceptionally good job with the Mad Hatter and the Queen of Hearts, I’m sure no matter how well they do the Cheshire Cat it won’t come even closer to the level of awesomeness I think he had in Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. It was the best character of Burton’s version and the definite take of the Cat for me, that’s how much I enjoyed his blue furry design and the way Stephen Fry acted on the role.

Robert Carlyle was also in the World is Not Enough and in 28 Weeks later where he played a father who ran away instead of trying to help his wife when she was cornered by infected (though to be fair, there wasn’t much he could do and by running away he insured his kids would have a father to return to).
