I’m just going to post this here because this is just speculation on my behalf at the moment.
Now this could be nothing but I couldn’t help but notice that Adam has just started following actress Carly Pope on twitter. Season 3 starts filming in one month exactly so we should expect casting announcements anytime now. Could Carly be our first new cast member?

There haven’t been any casting calls leak, apart from the rumoured, (ie: it was mentioned on tumblr that someone had seen it on SpoilerTV but ABC apparently requested for them to take it down, and it seems no one copied and pasted it anywhere before it disappeared so we don’t even know if it’s legit), casting call for Ariel. But Carly is older than I'd anticipated for Ariel. The alleged Ariel casting call apparently was for someone early – mid-20s, and Carly is 32.
Looks like they found each other on Twitter on the 8th…
I never watched Popular, but looking it up on imdb, I see that Adam was a producer on it, so they’ve worked together in some capacity, a bit over a decade ago.Wish there was a way to tell what date people edited their Twitter bio, because “i’m really good at being: CURIOUS” fits with a famous Alice In Wonderland quote, and could also apply to Ariel. If Carly has been cast on either show, Imma need an announcement STAT, before I lose my mind wondering about it. 😆
Hmmm. Well I still wouldn’t file this away. It seems a little odd that they have only just got back in touch again – I mean how long have they both had twitter for? Plus she keeps moving between LA and Vancouver……

The fact that they’ve worked together previously may mean Adam had her in mind specifically for a certain role.
Yes, they do seem to like to cast those they have worked with before. If she has not been cast perhaps she is angling to be. 😉 If they are going older, I could also see Evangeline Lilly as Ariel now that there are promos of her dressed as an elf for the Hobbit movie, with red hair. Ariel is big enough that they may fill it with a friend from a show.

Regarding Ariel, I think you can only age her up so much before you risk losing some of the charm of the character. She’s gotta be old enough to be given a meaty storyline, but still young enough that she hasn’t totally grown out of that daydreamy young rebel thing she’s got going on.

Totally off topic but I was really excited to see Evangeline as Tauriel in the new Hobbit trailer! Have been curious as to what that character would be like, and she looks pretty freaking cool IMO. 😀
