@ mia: I heard Granny say “e-LIZA” with a soft “e” sound and an emphasis on the “Liza” part when she wants to teach Ruby bookkeeping in the diner. I could be wrong. Perhaps it’s just a reference to Liza Minnelli (who wore a lot of makeup). Both “Liza” and “Eliza” are shortened variants of the name “Elizabeth” from the Hebrew for “God is my oath.” Also, for some reason I thought of Eliza Doolittle from My Fair Lady (which is probably completely unrelated). She transformed from a common flower girl to a lady.
As for Granny, I have to alter my original opinion and say I think she is called Widow Lucas. Perhaps this is the writers’ nod to George Lucas, the director and producer of Star Wars. The creators of OUAT said Star Wars is one of their favorite fairy tales. However, I still prefer the name Lupas myself (perhaps because it reminds me of Harry Potter book 3 where Professor Lupas was a werewolf).
@ NONNIE: A thought I have regarding Granny’s scar is that since it carried over from FTL, and since it still hurts every full moon, perhaps the werewolf curse is still active in SB, which is why Ruby wears so much red.
