Rumple must at least be mentioned in the book because of the scene where Snow and Charming visit him in his cell. It is possible that he’s not mentioned in great detail hence why Henry couldn’t figure out who Mr Gold was. Is Belle in the book? If she is then you would think that Rumple would feature heavily in her story.
