The promo isn’t just for episode 2×2; it’s a mash-up of the first five episodes of S2. For example, the promo has scenes of Captain Hook (whom we know we won’t meet until episode 4) and of Lancelot (who first appears in episode 3). That’s why I think David Anders (Dr. Whale) is in the picture stills, taken from episode 5, which is when we finally discover his fairy-tale counterpart. IMO, the man on the left is Dr. Whale’s counterpart, because he has red hair, a doctor’s bag, and is seen with Sebastian Stan (Jefferson), who is also going to be episode 5 (guest star list has been confirmed). By the looks of it, the picture of Regina is also from episode 5, and she seems to be with Dr. Whale, who is wearing that long Victorian gentleman’s coat in the picture and carrying a doctor’s bag. We know from spoilers that Regina has a juicy history with Dr. Whale, and in the synopsis for 2×5, Regina will struggle to learn the “dark arts,” which I think includes trying to bring back Daniel to life. Also, given the bolt of lightening hitting the tent and what appears to be an experiment on a body, it’s 99.99% likely in my mind that Dr. Whale is Dr. Frankenstein.
