The thing is though, and I posted this in another thread too, that photo of them walking down the street looks like it happens right after they come through a portal and are freshly reunited, which means all the people in the pic were likely at said portal, which means Charming was already awake before Snow got there if he’s out wandering around town in his jacket already and was there to meet her. If that does turn out to be the case, then imposters or not, Charming somehow wakes up before Snow and Emma arrive.
The only way for Charming to wake up is if he has true love’s kiss face to face, and I think the only alternative to Snow kissing him might just be Henry’s true love kiss for his grandfather. However, I still think Snow is going to be the key, since it’s a very nice symmetry to when Charming awakened Snow. The gathering of people could be after Snow returns and successfully kisses Prince Charming awake, which would explain the joy-filled reunion. The seven dwarves likely hear about Charming being under the sleeping curse and they come to witness Snow kiss Charming awake, just like they were present when Charming kissed Snow awake.
I also just read an article in which the actors talk about whether their characters want to go back to EF. Jared, Josh, and Jennifer all speak as if Snow and Emma have just returned to SB and then told Henry and Charming all about present-day EF.
HENRY: “I think in a way he’s like ‘Oh, that would be sort of cool,’ but in another way he’s sort of like ‘But everyone just got back here’…so I think he’s on-board in a way, but he’s not in another way. And also, he read the book, and he knows what the land is like in the book, but since the curse happened, as you’ve seen in the show, the land’s become very barren and deserted and evil,” Jared Gilmore said.
DAVID/PRINCE CHARMING: “I think David wants to get back to their kingdom—the kingdom that they fought for; the kingdom that they love; the kingdom that is their home. And Mary Margaret maybe might think a bit differently…‘Fairytale land is not as you remember it’, and the way he feels is then all the more reason to return there and make it right and make it better—make it better than it was,” Dallas said.
EMMA: “There is definitely a sense that Emma and Mary Margaret have experienced what I call post-apocalyptic fairytale land, and David has not. Even though it has been explained to him, and he’s heard the stories, it’s just different to hear about it than to be in it. For Emma and Mary Margaret, it’s very real, the state [fairytale land] is in. The dangers are very real, and the struggles are very real because they just survived it,” Jennifer Morrison said.
