I just don’t see any redeeming qualities in Hook. Yes, he’s easy on the eyes and charming but he doesn’t have any remorse for any of his wrong doings. That is what sets him apart from Gold/Rumple. He at least regrets letting Bae go and has been trying to rectify that situation. We’ve seen that Rumple started as a good man…flawed but essentially good….redemption is possible. We haven’t been shown anything (yet, I know we could see it and I could change my mind later) that shows that Hook can be redeemed. Plus, he would be a horrible step dad.
