But the way he treats her in the curtain scene and then for the majority of Lacey doesn’t add up. He is clearly already fond of her during the curtain scene and she is of him. In the majority of Lacey, up until he spares Robin, they are fighting and arguing and he drags her to the woods to watch him kill. Him sparing Robin is what allows for the curtain scene.
I just heard the official podcast episode for Lacey & at 11:45 one of the authors says:
“and for us the real inspiration for this episode is ‘what was the first moment that Belle really started to look at him?’. You know of course when she fell off the drapes & they looked at each other but for us, this was the moment when she realized he was more than a beast.”
Because of this I think that the curtain scene must have happened before Robin’s story. I do believe that the way Rumple & Belle treat each other is kind of inconsistent. Maybe when Skin Deep was filmed there was still no 100% certainty that the show was going to be renewed for a second season & the castle scenes have limited time so Rumple’s & Belle’s interactions had to be quicker to make them fall in love. Or maybe their relationship in the castle was like some of those “bipolar” relationships when a couple one day adore each other, at some point later hate each others guts & some time later they adore each other again. 🙄
