Traditionally, Peter Pan has always been played by a female but I don’t think we’re going to see this in the series either. 😉 But then……….we had Jack, so one never quite knows 🙂

Not in the movies. Bobby Driscoll voiced him in the Disney film, and Jeremy Sumpter played him in the 2003 film.

I should have been more specific as I was referring to the stage production, which in my mind (apart from the books) is canon. Both the Disney’s 1953 animated movie and the 2003 movie strayed from canon in various areas.

With J.M. Barrie’s stage production, it was difficult to hire child actors to work the long productions hours back in the early 1900’s. That’s why the role of Peter Pan was originally played by a small female and as stage tradition goes, the casting of a female stuck.

With Captain Hook, it was cheaper to have one actor play both roles. In the books, it is also believed that all adults are pirates. Only made sense to cast both Mr. Darling and Captain Hook with the same actor. 🙂
