We don’t know how much Hook knows about NL. He knew enough to guess he could live long enough to fashion his revenge against the Dark One. He mentions mermaids, but in that series of flashbacks at least, he thinks Bae could “be the key to their very survival” in NL. That sounds like Hook didn’t feel all that safe and established at that point in time. PP wasn’t actively hunting the pirates but it seemed like the Lost Boys thought they could come and search his ship if they wanted. Yet Hook thought he could protect Bae from the Lost Ones and Bae did manage to hide the first time.

We don’t know if Hook came and went from NL repeatedly. We know he went after the Crocodile events, and we know he left before the curse hit. We don’t know where he intended to go by himself, before turning the boat around. After he has the SB crew board though, it’s the globe that determined the destination. Hook didn’t choose to go back there, so we don’t know if there’s a reason he would or wouldn’t want to go.
