Shift lock is enabled on your computer. This is because:
– Your keyboard’s shift keys maybe stuck
– You may have activated ‘Sticky Keys’ by mistake. Sticky keys is an accessibility feature of Windows that allows physically challenged users to use computers comfortably. Sticky keys are activated if you keep the Shift key pressed for 5 second. You can change the Accessibility options in Start ->Programs ->Accessories ->Accessibilityhttp://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20071121054346AAKGBku

My computer died a few month ago and I got a new one that had Windows 8. I ended up returning it and searching high and low until I could find one of the last ones left with Windows 7. I was *this close* to going to Apple (I have issues with Apple). I ended up lucking out, because I found a great one with a huge hard drive because they were trying to liquidate them. Evidently, my opinion is not unusual. Windows 8 sucks.
Sorry, it didn’t help you with your problem, but I just have strong feelings against Microsoft right now.

July 29, 2013 at 9:20 pm #202622timespacerParticipantWas it the shift lock or the “sticky keys” as Happy Endings suggested? I agree that those sound like the most likely culprits. If that didn’t do it, I’d search for a menu that contains a system setting that specifies the font to be used, since it sounds like you might have accidentally selected a symbol font. There’s usually a default font menu somewhere in the form of a pull down list. Sorry I can’t be more helpful but I haven’t touched Windows since Windows95 came out – I’m strictly a Unix user (Linux and Macs) but there are enough commonalities that I can sometimes make an educated guess about Windows.

You come with an amazing booting time and a pretty new File Explorer, but your Metro UI is so beyond terrible I wouldn’t have remotely tolerated you in my new computer if not for the amazing extensions I found on the internet to recreate the Start Menu and ignore the Start Screen. Maybe next time you’ll get it right, Microsoft! 😀

I hate it too when I have to troubleshoot stuff for him. I hate it in general when I’m in front of a Windows instead of my Mac, but I don’t see how Windows 8 is an improvement over previous versions.

if u cant type go to settings, than control panel, than ease of acess, than how keyboard works,
u should be able to change ur settings there,
if it isn’t sticky keys though I don’t know what it is
