I’ve rewatched the season 3 sneak peek involving Rumple and Felix and I’ve notice a couple of things about Felix which could give some insight into how the Lost Ones operate.
Felix carries a big spiky club. Seriously, if he swung it at you, you’re either going to be seriously injured or dead. More on that later.
First thing, Rumple calls Felix out of the undergrowth “Come out and say hello, Dearie”. There’s no “you’re late” or “I’ve been expecting you” which suggests this wasn’t an arranged meeting but more likely Felix has been following/tracking Rumple. Felix delivers Pan’s message to Rumple that Rumple is welcome in Neverland so long as he isn’t trying to rescue Henry. Rumple basically tells Felix where to stick it. Felix is very cold and emotionless in this scene. He tells Rumple that if he goes against Pan “You will not survive” which Rumple acknowledges. Rumple then grabs Felix and tells him that the question is not about whether he’ll survive but how many Lost Ones he’ll take with him. There are several things at play here, one Felix doesn’t even flinch, he uses the same emotionless tone even as Rumple is in his face and he doesn’t even try and remove Rumple’s hands from him. Felix is completely unafraid of Rumple. This is where I think Rumple has made his first mistake against the Lost Ones. Rumple has effectively declared war against the Lost Ones, and by not killing Felix then and there, Felix will go back to the Lost ones and prepare them for battle. The next thing Felix does is he casually tosses the doll on the floor. We know the effect the doll has on Rumple, so the way Felix just tosses it to the floor show a great lack of respect and care for possessions that mean a great deal for someone else. Felix shows some emotion here, he is enjoying seeing Rumple upset, he actually smiles before sauntering off saying “see you around, Dark one” in a very mocking tone. Big spiky club+ person enjoying seeing others in pain, wielding said club = Be afraid, be very afraid.
Why didn’t Rumple kill Felix? Rumple has had no issue in the past killing someone for the smallest perceived slight (snail guy, mute maid) so why let Felix go? After all Felix is likely going to go back to the Lost Ones and PP and tell them to prepare for battle and also probably boast about how he made the dark one cry. For the same reason, why didn’t Hook and his crew of pirates fight against the 4 or 5 Lost Ones that were searching the ship for Bae? The Lost Ones had a little row boat that could easily be blasted out of the water by the ship’s cannons. Also why don’t the mermaids try and snatch the Lost Ones out of their little boat, it’s not like they’re out of reach on a tall ship? It could be that the Lost Ones have a pack mentality about them, if one of them gets injured or hurt, the rest of “the pack” will go into full on retaliation. Hook’s ship isn’t the first the Lost Ones have searched, what’s the odds that some sailors did fight back against the Lost Ones when they first started searching ships and perhaps taking cabin boys? Hook let the Lost Ones search his ship with no resistance, why would he do that, especially when he had Bae onboard? What if, in the previous initial ship searching phase, a couple of the Lost Ones did get injured (Would explain Felix’s scar) so as retaliation, the Lost ones set fire to the ships with the men on board (at night so the men would be sleeping), the men on board the burning ships would have a choice, stay on board a burning ship and burn to death or try and swim through mermaid infested waters to shore (where if the mermaids didn’t kill and eat them, then the Lost Ones would probably be waiting on shore to club them to death). With stories like that, Hook and his crew probably thought it best not to resist the Lost Ones.
Why do the Lost Ones carry weapons such as big spiky clubs? They might need to use them whilst searching ships for boys but it could also have to do with the Lost Ones’ living situation. When Bae is captured Felix calls him “Boy” and tells one of the others to “put him with the rest”. This could suggest Bae’s social standing within the Lost Ones since he isn’t the boy PP is after.
It’s highly likely that there are no supermarkets in Neverland so the Lost Ones can’t just pop out for a bit of food. They have to hunt and kill it, hence the weapons. However where do the kidnapped boys come in? The Lost Ones wouldn’t be expected to hunt, cook and clean for hundreds of crying boys. This is where Devin comes in. He’s described as a “competitive lost boy”. At first I thought Lost Boy and Lost One get used interchangeably but then it hit me, Devin may well be a lost BOY (one who was kidnapped by the shadow) but he wants to be a lost ONE. After about 200 years how many tears would a boy have left to shed for home? (I think Felix and the Lost Ones are desensitised to the crying and probably even have a cruel game of which boy will cry the longest since they’ve got to entertain themselves somehow). PP and the Lost Ones have probably come from a society where “a woman’s place is in the kitchen” and since there’s no women/girls in Neverland what do they do? They divide the boys into groups. The strongest/older ones become hunters (Lost Ones) whilst the weaker/younger ones become homemakers (the “women’s role”) such as cooking and keeping the place clean. The boys are either going to accept this homemaking role or they want to move up and become hunters which I think is what Devin wants to do. The Lost Ones are going to incite a competitive atmosphere amongst the boys because the boys that really want to be hunters/Lost Ones are going to be more loyal than the ones that just don’t want to do dishes. I think PP’s shadow ripping is a way to keep the boys in line. Felix said to Hook “Do you know what he does to people who LIE to him?” It is also implied that Felix has actually seen PP rip someone’s shadow from them. Since PP doesn’t accompany the Lost Ones on searching the ships, it is likely Felix witnessed the shadow ripping happen to one of the Lost Boys that got out of line. The Lost Ones probably run a tight ship where everyone has to pull their weight otherwise you go to bed hungry. The Lost Ones would have a way of keeping misbehaving Lost Boys in line otherwise, the situation would escalate and PP would lose control. The calling him “Boy” thing could be that the Lost Boys are stripped of their name and they earn it back as they move up through the ranks.
Why no women/girls in Neverland? If PP and the Lost Ones wanted homemakers whilst they searched for Henry, why not get a couple of girls to fulfil that role? I had the theory that PP might be secretly gay but now I don’t think so. What if, before Neverland, PP was in an orphanage? Orphanages were commonly run by nuns and they weren’t always the kindest people to the orphans. If PP’s only experience with women was nasty nuns then it is quite possible he could come to the misinformed logical conclusion that all girls grow up to be nuns. Nuns were very moral in the sense that the slightest wrong doing would be judged by God and your soul sent to Hell where it would burn for all eternity etc. Wendy saying how keeping the Lost Boys is wrong could be enough for PP to think she’s getting nun like and want her out of Neverland (though Wendy was probably a ploy to get Bae). The no girls/women thing could also be as simple as Tinkerbell doesn’t want girls challenging her as queen bee.
Tinkerbell is the only woman in PP’s group. This could be because she’s a fairy so has power of her own (and is classed as a fairy rather than a woman) yet her social standing within the group must be pretty high because she doesn’t seem the type to be relegated to homemaking even though she’s female. She doesn’t get sent out with the Lost Ones which could suggest she has a higher social standing within the group than the Lost Ones. Her casting call describes her as a “party girl” so it’s possible she likes to mingle with all the boys rather than just Peter Pan. Her role within the group could be as a go-between Pan and everybody else. Felix may have the same social standing within the group as Tinkerbell; making them PP’s second in commands since Felix was sent out to deliver the message to Rumple whereas Tinkerbell wasn’t. Of the two, Tinkerbell may be more approachable for the Lost Boys as she may not be as uncaring as Felix appears to be.Henry is the boy PP is after. He was taken to Neverland by GOAT and no doubt will be taken from them rather swiftly. Where Henry stands within the Lost Boys could go two ways. Either Henry will just be treated like the other low ranking boys until PP needs to use him or Henry will be given special treatment which will aggravate some of the other Lost Boys, such as Devin, who had to work their way through the ranks the hard way. Also let’s remember that, as teenage boys, there is going to be a lot of testosterone flying around amongst the Lost Boys as they each try to jostle for the best position within the group. Those of higher ranking are likely to be treated better than those of lower ranking. Henry, as the newcomer to the group, may be put in his place rather quickly by some of the other Lost Boys who have been there longer.

Keeper of FelixAugust 30, 2013 at 12:01 pm #207289RumplesGirlKeymasterI wonder if the Lost Ones are the first boys that came over to NL with PP. They are almost unquestioningly loyal to PP, like men get to their generals who continuously save their lives and provide for them. I like the idea of the orphanage and maybe Tink brought them over. In a group of boys, particularly a group that is rather disenfranchised, there tends to be a leader, one who gives the orders and corrals the boys but also makes sure everyone is safe and has what they need. If anyone has ever seen Neverland from SyFy, Peter basically did this with the street urchins. It could be a similar situation here, but then they get to NL and the pressure of having to provide for everyone AND maybe bearing the responsibility of protecting NL turned PP into a darker figure. And somewhere along the way he learned how to separate this shadow.
If I had to make a guess, I’d say Felix at one point tried to reason with PP, tried to get him to ease up on the rules or on taking boys from other worlds and not letting them go home, and PP carved up his face in response. Since then Felix has been the best little soldier he could be.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"August 30, 2013 at 12:19 pm #207290PriceofMagicParticipantI wonder if they will make PP and the Lost Ones sympathetic or at least show their backstories.

They’ve introduced the concept of shadow ripping which is probably going to be the season 3 version of heart ripping. Also I think it’ll show that having your heart taken is positively tame compared to having your shadow ripped.
