Blue did not give Nova a choice, she gave Dreamy the choice. I thought that was odd. And when she did it, she did so in the context that Dwarves CANNOT love, not that it was true love and he had to give it up.
And this was one of the biggest problems I had with Dreamy and then with Blue. She made it seem as though it was totally impossible for Dwarves to love. And in the normal case of Dwarves maybe romantic love is–but not love. Those Dwarves obviously love each other (they broke Grumpy out of jail after all) and they love Snow White to the point where they give up their work and become her personal guards. They are capable of love, so why is it such a stretch for Blue to believe that Dreamy could love Nova?
Also, Blue talks about Nova’s dream to become a FGM:
Blue Fairy: I’m Nova’s teacher. And if the two of you run away together, it will not end well. Nova will lose her wings. But, if you return to the mines, and if you allow Nova to become the fairy that she was meant to be, the two of you will bring untold joy to the world. Nova can be a great fairy – if you let her. The choice is yours.
The beginning of the episode does not make sense in comparison to this quote. Nova is anything but a great fairy. She’s sweet and has big dreams, but you can see by the look on Blue’s face as they sit on the clouds and Blue has her doubts and doesn’t think Nova should be allowed near any wand.
Blue Fairy: Because, next year, you’ll be doing this alone.
Nova: I-I’ll still be picking up dust? I thought I’d be a fairy godmother by then.
Blue Fairy: Oh, Nova. You really are a dreamer
Why this sudden change in Blue, believing that Nova was special or talented. From her interactions with Dreamy, doing her job, we see that Nova is still clumsy and dreamy and not exactly FGM material.
So when I went to get the quotes, I forgot that Blue said Nova would lose her wings. I think this ties in nicely with some things we were saying a page back about Tink and Blue. What if this happened before–to Tink. She fell in love and wished to give up being a fairy, Blue condemned her to NL where Tink grew bitter and resentful and aligned herself with PP and sought to get even? This puts fear into Blue about fairies who fall in love (my headcanon that Blue was once in love and lost it–when her TL became the Dark One–is still here; I won’t give it up until told otherwise).
