I did not think there was a hint, but you never know! I thought it was just that Owen was saying that other kids did not know how to be normal around someone grieving. If you saw Super=8 it starts off with the idea the boy’s mother died in a freak factory accident or something. So there is this tension where his friends are not sure how to act, you cannot go back to normal but you don’t want to make too big a deal either to the point your friend is uncomfortable.
