I think that Tamara and Greg are like like blind lemmings jumping off a cliff. They didn’t even consider how using magic is inconsistent with their cause to irradiate it. They should have paused to question it: “Hang on a sec! Why would we risk using magic if magic always comes with a price? Isn’t using a magic bean an evil thing to do since magic is unholy?” But, no, they’re almost too indoctrinated to think rationally about their cause anymore.
