Regina removes Devin’s heart so they can spy on Henry. Now, Regina is brought to her wits end by the Charming crowd next week and sets off alone running into Rumple. We can assume the heart travels w/ her and hence any intelligence on Henry’s state of mind etc. would presumably be Regina’s. Must be sure to game this out. Cause if she and Rumple ally to rescue Henry the intel would be theirs and Regina could find herself in the very uncomfortable position of having to protect Henry from Rumple.

I don’t think Henry needs protecting from Rumple. Henry is now at the age where he was about the same age as Baelfire when he fell through the portal. So it’s kinda like Rumple can start over with Henry

The problem is that disregards the prophecy about Henry being his undoing.

He already said he was willing to forfeit his life for Henry. He has given things to Henry for no price. And we do not know that Rumple will die, just that it will be his undoing which could mean him losing the power of the dark one but remain living, or he could die. We won’t know until A&E chooses to say or show us.

Yes, we also know he thought Henry would lead him to his son before that, but once he found out he was his grandson, he had no problems asking Bae if he’d like to be 14, then yelling at Henry, telling Henry rudely to call him whatever, then of course, trying to kill him and getting so close he almost did it!
I don’t see Rumple thinking of Henry as a replacement for Bae. Rumple hasn’t spent years as Henry’s father, but he still holds those memories dear of his little baby boy that honked his nose. It’s a different thing with Henry who he knows is related, but doesn’t have that built up emotional connection.

Undoing can just mean that he loses his power not that he dies
