Tonight we met a total Disney Classic duo: Ariel, the Little Mermaid and her Prince Eric!

What are your thoughts on this newest couple? Did you like their story? Do you want to see more?

So as an avid Hookriel shipper, I must admit I thought Ariel and Eric were adorable together, but I definitely want to see more because that was sort of a whirlwind romance. I wanna see when she first saved him!

Yes even though I *adore* the idea of Hookriel, I must admit these two were cute together.
I did think the romance went very fast; one dance and it’s TL, but that’s how it works in Disney tales so I was ok with it in the end.

I did find that Eric was rather “stiff” or very official-like compared to the fun-loving Eric from TLM though…

Yeah I think there needed to be more of him outside of the ball. in TLM he joked around and was very cutesy. He was very “stately” here. But he was very handsome.

He definitely needs Max, that will make him just about perfect lol (though i still love the idea of Hookriel)

I’m so a fan of Eric and Ariel! I love they way they acted like little school children in love. It was so sweet, and I’m sure we’ll see more of them. 🙂

So as a Hookriel shipper, too, I was okay with Eriel. It was a warp speed romance and I could see potential in the future. So I’m not as dead set against Eric and Ariel anymore. I think they need to slow down and go on a date, like Giselle recommended in the movie “Enchanted” of her prince.

It will be interesting to see what the future holds for those two.

This is turning into a second string Hookriel thread with all us shippers. 😆

Only thing I felt was lacking was the unrequited love theme. I guess we kinda sorta got it with Eric waiting for Ariel who he thought never came, but we know she was there, so it didn’t feel like a legit use of the unrequited theme, which is a big deal in both previous versions of the story, so I’d expected to have seen at least a bit of it in the show too. Maybe if we’d seen him spend more than 2 minutes with her previously, his sadness would have had more of an impact? Typically it takes him longer than 2 minutes to fall in love with her, so I guess the way they did it felt more rushed than what I’d been expecting.

I did like how they twisted it with him believing Ursula had saved him and given him a vision of his future love though, and considering that, of course he fell in love with her instantly, because he believed she was his destiny.

So I guess I’m a bit in two minds over how they did it, but I do hope we get to see more of them so it fleshes out their relationship more, gives it some depth.
