Hmm, I just reread that wonderful MRJ interview that OUAFan did near the end of last season and something that was said in it kind of applies to the show right now and pardon me that I haven’t figured out how to quote yet so I’m just copying and pasting the part into a new paragraph. Someday I’ll figure this board out, LOL 😆

Diane:  Do you think Neal seeing Rumpel be so vulnerable with Belle, and then also August being willing to sacrifice himself before he dies—did those events change or shift your character at all? To decide to be more vulnerable? Or has that always been a vein in Neil?

Michael Raymond-James: I think that’s always been a vein in his character. Those sorts of moments can inspire a sleeping giant inside people. They allow for something that’s always been there, but has long since been put away in a box for the purpose of self-preservation. The capacity that people have to endure is amazing. But sometimes one must come up with coping mechanisms, and that certainly could be one of Neal’s. But when you see these moments of sacrifice or human tenderness or kindness, it inspires those aspects of ourselves to wake up a little bit.

Pardon me while I ramble now but I think Neal was completely in that preservation mode when we met him in Manhattan and while wonderful bits of that vulnerability are starting to come out, I fear he may start reverting back into that self preservation mode that he was in for so many years while dealing with this whole Emma-Hook thing, Henry’s kidnapping, and also with his father. He seems to all ready be doing that now and shifting his focus onto Henry (which makes sense since that should be priority #1 for everyone right now) and IMO, I think that mode is probably part of the reason he and Emma fell in love in the first place. They both do that (those walls go up fast) because of their lonely and hard lives and while they didn’t really know everything about each other’s pasts (obviously Neal wasn’t going to tell Emma about FT land and Emma didn’t even know her true past at that point), I imagine that each of them sharing bits of their pain was a powerful thing for the other and helped cement this bond that they still have with each other. They were probably each other’s first real friend and with all the little glances and nuances that we keep seeing now, it’s becoming painfully obvious to me that these two people need to sit and TALK again. She really needs to hear his side of the story about his father, his time in Neverland, Hook turning him over to PP, the Darlings (hoping we get some of that this weekend), and where he’s been in the years since he left her. My fear is that we’re never going to get that sort of thing while they keep ramping up all the action stuff and we won’t get that wonderful story between these two lost kids. JMo and MRJ have proven they can handle all that emotional stuff without a lot of action around them (hello Manhattan…my favorite episode of the entire series) so I’m trying to hold onto hope that this stuff is still coming because if they gloss over it, I am going to be one unhappy camper. I still believe in SwanFire, I’m going down with this ship too, but it’s the little moments in between that I feel like they’re missing and that’s getting annoying for me.

I have NO CLUE if anything I just wrote makes sense (you guys are way better this than me, LOL) but I’m bored at work and felt like rambling so there you go. That whole interview is all kinds of awesome BTW if you haven’t read it in a while. I love MRJ more and more every single day! 😀
