KeymasterBarbara Barnett did an interview recently with David Goodman, one of the long time writers for the show. Someone was nice enough to put it in bullet points for those who don’t like to sit and listen to people talk. Thought I’d share!
Apparently since Jane has become increasingly involved with OUATiW David has become the go-to guy for Rumple.
Before the interview the panel discuss the possibility of “the boy who is Rumple’s undoing” being Peter and the fact that “undoing” doesn’t necessarily mean “dead” but also, perhaps, “trapped in Pandora’s box” or something.
He’s got a really nice voice. He does.
He clarifies they knew Pan was Peter’s father from the beginning of Season 3. It wasn’t a later development at all.
Next episode we learn more about how Henry ends up in Storybrooke.
Episode 11 will wrap up a storyline and the second half of the season will be “wildly different”, with a different vibe and plot.
The end of episode 11 will tease us with something to come back to. There will be a hint of things to come.
The idea of making Peter Pan Rumple’s father came up in a pre-season 3 reunion.
Regarding “undoing”: It means something more complicated and interesting than what Rumple thinks it means (his death).
Honest to God question: “Did you try to make Gold this sexy this season on purpose?” Yeah, apparently. They want people to be “taken with Rumple”. Mission accomplished, sir.
In the next couple of episodes the story of Henry and Neverland will come to a dramatic conclusion. Though he doesn’t want to say they’ll NEVER be returning to NVL because who knows for sure?
Emma will still be struggling with her magic for a long while.
The shadow will play a huge role in upcoming episodes but they won’t delve into its origin story.
One of the panellists (who I love) once more presented her “the blue fairy has an agenda” theory and asked about it, pointing out how many strings she’s pulled. David won’t confirm or deny, but he encouraged the panellist to “spin away”.
There’s a bunch of stuff coming up for the Blue Fairy on the next couple of episodes.
Next episode will be very emotional in regards to Regina (related to Henry being adopted and the void left by her murdering her father).
We’ll find out more about the origin of Henry’s storybook in the next couple of episodes.[adrotate group="5"]"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"November 19, 2013 at 9:26 pm #225183RumplesGirl

Hmm. So they didn’t know in S2?

Loosing his DO’s powers. Calling it.

Hi my name is RumplesGirl and I’ve been taken with Rumple since 101

No backstory, eh? Sad.

HA! HA! HA! *victory dance* I shall be victorious!

Peter Pan wrote it with the help of the Blue Fairy. DONE.

ParticipantI knew they didn’t map stuff out seasons ahead! I mean they have an idea of some things, but others they arc out in “camps” season to season. They are talented though at making it fit the things already written (yet we do that too….sneaking suspicion they’ve got an intern stalking us and our crazy ideas!).

I thought for sure they knew about MalcolmPan before the end of S2 because ABC didn’t include the cut Manhattan scene of Rumple’s father leaving him from the DVDs, which are canon according to Adam.
So they set up big general ideas and plots and then seasonal arcs are mapped out a few months before they write/film. I guess I’m not *surprised* but I thought MalcolmPan would have been planned since Manhattan.

I missed this the first time I read the post. That means we will know how Henry was adopted and who wrote the book about time 🙂

ParticipantHere’s the link to Barbara Barnett’s podcast. The interview starts about 30mins in: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/barbara-barnett/2013/11/19/once-upon-a-time-with-guest-co-executive-producer-david-goodman

I think that by the time the DVDs were put together, they must have had an inkling that they were maybe gonna go in a different direction with that story, so they specifically asked that that cut scene not be included. David said he couldn’t remember who exactly at the writers’ camp had voiced the possibility, but it wouldn’t surprise me at all if it had been Adam or Eddy, because it’s such a major twist, it’s probably an idea they started to consider already by the end of S2. Maybe they even did have an original plan to make Pan his brother, but thought that father would make for a cooler twist once they started to hash it all out? The brother theory still could have worked, even with the cut scene of Rumple seeing his father run out and be killed.
One of the panellists (who I love) once more presented her “the blue fairy has an agenda” theory and asked about it, pointing out how many strings she’s pulled. David won’t confirm or deny, but he encouraged the panellist to “spin away”.
I enjoyed that he seemed amused by the Sneaky Fairy question. 😉

I liked hearing this question addressed, because lately I’ve been thinking that there’s no way that they can really show all the NL history that’s relevant to these characters, within the next couple of eps. They won’t have time to show exactly what Hook did when he worked for Pan. Won’t have time to show Tink’s time there, including how she got there in the first place. Won’t have time to show Bae’s time there, his first meeting with Pan, how he ended up in the cave, and how he ended up leaving. So I figured maybe they’ll keep all that in reserve to use in future eps that focus on Nealfire, Hook, and Tink. It’d also allow them to bring back Robbie Kay for flashback guest appearances in the future, even if Pan dies in the present.

Yes knowing what we do know about episodes 9-11, there are a lot of missing pieces with the traditional NL characters. It would be great to bring Robbie back sometimes; he has been wonderful.
