It was definitely in character for Neal to handle it like that. He has a history of doing the right thing to help people, even if it’s at great detriment to himself, so the concept of helping someone expecting a reward for it appalls him.
And it was also in character for Hook to handle it the way he did. I’d just been hoping, as a Hook fan, for some character growth with him, but alas, not so much as of yet.
