Love is a lot bigger than one person. You can love a man and a child, just as you can love both (or all, if you have more than two) of your parents. It doesn’t have to be a replacement.
I’m not saying that Regina would ever stop loving Henry just because she falls in love with Robin Hood. There are many different types of love: romance, family, friends. Currently, the reason Regina and Henry can’t be together ever again is because he is the person she loves most. Yet, if Regina were to fall in love with Robin Hood, he might become the most important person in her life going forward, now that Henry is out of the picture. That is not to say a husband could ever take the place of a child or vice-versa, but in terms of importance, Robin Hood would then become the most important person in Regina’s life. There are seasons to every person’s life. It’s like when a child leaves home for college, and suddenly a mother is left wondering what next to pour her heart into. In Regina’s case, she might pour her entire heart into loving Robin Hood. It’s similar to the debate about whether Belle or Baelfire is truly Rumple’s idea of a happy ending. Well, the answer is both, but either one of them could be the most important person to Rumple, just in different ways.
