Cheerful sounding topic, isn’t it?
Whilst looking up a quote from The Outside for RumBelle, I came across something. Hook told Rumple to kill him so that he could be reunited with Milah. In Neverland, Pan told Emma, Snow and Regina that their family would all be reunited in death. And it got me thinking.
Is it possible that there is a realm after death where somebody’s soul/spirit resides until they are ready to pass over? Therefore somebody’s spirit can wait around for their loved ones to die too and thus “Be reunited in death” before passing over.
We often hear the term on the show “Dead is Dead” yet if that was the case, how was Whale able to bring Daniel back and his brother, even if they came back wrong? (Maybe the coming back wrong was the price of doing what many consider to be Unnatural thus upsetting the natural order of things?)
The term “Unfinished business” is often attached to ghosts as a reason for why they stick around and they can only pass over once they complete their unfinished business which could be a variety of things.
They’ve already introduced the concept of a netherworld on Once, is it possible a spirit world could exist too?

Some people are speculating that Rumple could have gone to the Underworld, which is ruled by Hades in Greek mythology, and is where the soul goes after someone dies.

Totally my headcanon for present.
I think it’s safe to say that there might be something like an underworld in the ONCEiverse. We know that the Wraith can take souls to his realm even though there is no “death” in the strict sense.

For some, Heaven, Hell, and the afterlife in general is just a myth as any other fairytale. If Once were to show it to exist (even if its not what we perceive it to be like) I can totally accept that.
Hades, I hope would come into play. In Greek mythology, he already has kinda Once backstory anyway >> If thats where Rumpel is, then I want Belle and Neal to fight Hell and highwater to get him back

It’s not too far out there that Rumple is in limbo or something. I think he’s in limbo. Not quite in Hell or Heaven because he’s done a lifetime of bad things but not in heaven quite because the bad outweighs the good kind of thing. He could be there.
How do you get someone who’s in Limbo out of Limbo is the question?

Aurora, Mulan and Phillip might be able to answer that question.
It was “just” Phillip’s soul they had to retrieve, but their story could now tie in nicely.

December 26, 2013 at 3:10 pm #233816PriceofMagicParticipantYes now would be the perfect time to reveal how Philip’s soul was retrieved. It would also explain why they didn’t cover that part of MAP’s story and be done with them in the first few episodes of season 3 when MAP appeared.

Agreed. With Sarah and Jamie both going to new shows, now is the perfect time to give the MAP story post-209. Even if it’s through exposition and not flashback, it’d be nice to have that story tied up.

And if one thing is true with OUAT, whenever you think “they wouldn’t go there,” a few epis down the road, “there” they are! I like it. I read an interview with Robert Carlyle – for the life of me I can’t remember where, but it was toward the end of the 1st half of S3 – and he was asked to speculate if Rumple will ever go dark again. If anything’s going to make Rumple go dark again, or even tempt him, it’d be Hades…it sets up a great storyline for Belle and Neal, too. And please, PLEASE finally give Belle something more to do during the 2nd half of S3! I loved seeing her take Ariel under her wing, but Belle is most compelling when she’s inspiring the Dark One.
