Doesn’t think Happy will make it 🙁
The dwarf’s portrayer Michael Coleman recently invited blowback from not just fans but a show boss and multiple castmates when he spoke out on Twitter against the SwanQueen ‘ship. Just ask Ana Lucia and Mr. Eko how such PR messes have been known to play out.
I hope they are wrong. He made a mistake so what people aren’t perfect.
[adrotate group="5"]January 1, 2014 at 8:11 pm #234777CindersParticipantHe’s already back on twitter getting fan love.
January 1, 2014 at 9:36 pm #234785kranenParticipantI think he’ll be fine.
If I had to pick any character that won’t survive the year, it would be the Wicked Witch of the West seeing as they like to do villains for roughly half a season then kill them and get a new one (Cora, GOAT, Peter Pan, Felix, etc).
January 1, 2014 at 9:46 pm #234787kpercymanParticipantHe’s okay. People aren’t goings to boycott the show because of him.
I would think Red, WWW and another minor character are probably on the chopping block.

If anything, I could see them recasting the role, the casual viewer may not take notice. But I bet the actor got a serious tongue lashing from A&E and a big ol’ list of what he can and cannot say in social media for a while and it was done.
January 1, 2014 at 10:30 pm #234791kfchimeraParticipantThe saddest thing is he could have had the best “fend off the rabid fans” answer: “I ship everyone with Happy-ness”. If he answered that and only that–everyone would have laughed and no PR mess.
“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?” -- Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass
January 1, 2014 at 11:06 pm #234792PheeParticipantI saw some tumblr posts recently that said Michael had taken the thing about playing Happy on OUAT out of his bio line on Twitter. Just went to check, and his background which used to be an image of him as Happy, with the Disney Happy, is gone. I do have a horrible feeling that he might have been fired over the whole mess. 🙁
January 1, 2014 at 11:30 pm #234794CindersParticipantI wish I could make a banner like the official ones for Happy. Believe that a dwarf can have a second chance.
January 1, 2014 at 11:45 pm #234796obisgirlParticipantHappy’s going to be fine.
Side note: I’m actually okay with what he said. I’ve been doing this fandom/’shipping thing for a long time. And the fandom/’shipping thing, it is a fan thing. That’s why it’s called fanfiction, fan art, fan videos, fan forums — all that stuff is by the fans. The writers write the show. The fans, we come up with the creative ways to show our love. We don’t write the show. The writers do that.
For Michael to get hate for saying that is ridiculous.
January 2, 2014 at 12:19 am #234799PheeParticipantHis comments about SQ being a fanon ship were fine, and any backlash he got from saying that was totally uncalled for.
I think the thing that could have potentially gotten him into trouble with the powers that be is that he kept talking and mentioned how SQ gets discussed amongst the cast, and he actually name checked JMo and Lana, saying that they were aware of how nasty some SQers can be. People took it as him generalising that the whole of SQ Nation is hated and gossiped about by the cast, including JMo and Lana themselves, which is a contradiction of what they’ve said previously about loving the SQers, (and even if it’s true and the bad apple SQers do get discussed amongst the cast, it’s really bad PR to make that public knowledge), which is what led to both actresses tweeting that he didn’t speak for them. He also implied that as someone who is on the show, he has inside knowledge of future storylines, which Adam later refuted. I think those are the things that could have put his job in jeopardy. When you imply something that your boss himself has to do damage control for, and when one of the main stars of your show tweets you that she “resents” how your actions have affected her…that’s not necessarily conducive to job security.
I don’t think he intended to say anything that was out of line or malicious. From what I’ve seen, he seems to be a lovely, lighthearted kinda person. The whole situation escalated really quickly, and he got upset, and overwhelmed, and said stuff he probably shouldn’t have. That happens to everyone. It’s just unfortunate that in this case he did it very publicly and it involved high profile people, so maybe his slip up can’t be as easily brushed under the rug. They may deem it necessary to fire him as damage control, to prove to the SQ fanbase in particular that those involved in the show aren’t against them. It would be really sad if someone actually losing their job resulted from an innocent comment about a ship.
Fans just need to STOP ASKING actors if they ship stuff, and actors need to NOT REPLY to those questions.
