Warning: The following contains a spoiler of unusual size from the second half of Once Upon a Time Season 3.
By the time ABC’s Once Upon a Time closes the book on its third season, someone will have been definitively denied his or her chance at a happy ending. Because that person will be — gulp — ended.
Series creators Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis tell TVLine exclusively that the fantastical series will be killing off a major character during the second batch of 11 episodes (launching March 9), resulting in the exit of a series regular. “The character dies, for real,” Kitsis makes clear — at which point his/her portrayer will, make no mistake, leave the show.
Every series regular cast member is a possibility –except for Robert Carlyle. The EPs have agreed to rule out that one candidate, seeing as Rumplestiltskin is theoretically already “gone” (having sacrificed himself in the name of vanquishing Peter Pan).

[adrotate group="5"]"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"January 20, 2014 at 3:38 pm #238841RumplesGirlKeymasterIn other words, everyone except Rumple is up for grabs.
Make your predictions now. I’m…very nervous right now.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"January 20, 2014 at 3:49 pm #238844SlurpeezParticipantI think the “original” S1 main cast members are safe. Of the rest of the “series regulars” there are: Emilie de Ravin, Michael Raymond-James or Colin O’Donoghue. Probalby one of the men will duck out to make room for Sean Maguire (Robin Hood, who is Regina’s new love interest).
"That’s how you know you’ve really got a home. When you leave it, there’s this feeling that you can’t shake. You just miss it." Neal Cassidy
January 20, 2014 at 3:49 pm #238845obisgirlParticipantOkay, well, let’s look at the options in that poll:
Michael Raymond-James (Neal/Baelfire) – I remember Daniel saying in the full review that Neal could die and maybe he could and if he did, hopefully it’s something that’s similar to Rumple in the winter finale, where he makes some grand sacrifice or something. Do something heroic for a change.
Emilie de Ravin (Belle) 17.72% – Doubtful, especially since we know Rumple is coming back, it would really suck to have the other half of rumbelle die.
Colin O’Donoghue (Captain Hook) 17.72% – This man excels at surviving. Not likely.
Jared Gilmore (Henry) 10.13% – he’s been on the cusp of death multiple times but he never actually dies and that’s a good thing because it’s always uncomfortable to see kids, even annoying ones die on screen.
Josh Dallas (David/Prince Charming) 5.06% – Nope. A&E planned to kill him in the pilot and they changed that and it would be too repetitive to try and kill him again this season.
Ginnifer Goodwin (Mary Margaret/Snow White) – Oh no.
Jennifer Morrison (Emma) – Doubtful. She’s the lead of the show and the story revolves around her and finding her happy ending. How is it happy or hopeful to kill her now before she even reaches it?
Lana Parrilla (Regina/The Evil Queen) – Also doubtful, especially since she’s going to find her true love soon.
January 20, 2014 at 3:49 pm #238846RumplesGirlKeymasterWe’ve been talking about this in chat so just some things to think about.
1) The originals are probably safe. It won’t be Emma, Regina, Snow or Charming (and Rumple obviously)
2) That leaves Nealfire, Hook and Belle
If we couple this with the PA’s spoiler that the actor/actress in question was not happy then it seems like it is the person’s choice, not the writers.
I don’t know. I would be upset by any of those deaths.
It’s a crappy way to resolve a love triangle and obviously my OTP would be affected if Belle left.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"January 20, 2014 at 3:52 pm #238847obisgirlParticipantI think Belle is safe. Hook again, he excels at surviving so I think he’s safe too. The thing I’ve noticed with these polls, they have to throw him in there as a wild card but he’s really not.
I think the top candidate is probably Neal.

Well we need to remember what hte PA said. The person wants out. It’s not a writing choice. It’s an acting decision.

Then, I can’t imagine Colin would leave. I mean, he left his band and moved his family to Canada for this show. And he seems to really love the role.

And by the same extension, he has a huge fan base now. Bigger and better things, as they say. Dan Steven of Downton Abbey did the same thing. As did Matt Smith of Doctor Who. When you’ve established yourself in smaller roles, you move up.
I’mnot trying to start anything. But the fact is we don’t know the inner workings of ANY of the actors minds.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"January 20, 2014 at 4:01 pm #238853CaptainEalaParticipantThis is VERY sad news.
Honestly I can’t imagine it’s Colin either. He’s lucky to have gotten the role of Hook – he knows that. He LOVES the role, loves the craic. I just… don’t think it’s him.
The PA tweeted about someone who was VERY unhappy, someone messing up the trailer etc.
I dunno. Ugh.
