Then this is what i think happened.
The first three pics above are from the the pilot episode. Most of us looking for clues knew that Flying Monkey’s have been mentioned in Henry’s book. However…when looking at this episode again…I noticed something.
The middle two pics I took screenshots of because it happens very quickly. Grumpy is up in the tower and looking at Regina’s curse coming over the mountains…but there is the flying bird thing coming at him and then disappears…
Is that a flying monkey?! Walsh? Escaping the curse? I mean that thing flying by looks prehistoric or so…the last pic is from the promo…and just a comparison shot. The wings of that thing look like it is a flying monkey with them being so large.
So could the WW be sending this monkey ahead to escape Regina’s curse and go to NYC?
[adrotate group="5"]If you look at the wings of the monkeys in the Once Upon A Time book and then the pictures below them the outline and size and shape fit that of those in the book. I know in chat some people suggested it might be a dragon, but I’m pretty sure that is a flying monkey escaping the curse.
I like this idea, August had Kansas plates so I wonder if the Witch guided everyone from there as to what to do.
We’ve seen two dragons on the show
1) The Shepherd
2) Mal
Both dragons were larger and darker than the thing fleeing the Curse. The fact that the flying creature is followed by seeing Henry’s book is a bit of a sign.
I’m not ready to say for 100% but I think I might be leaning toward an escaped flying monkey

I think Regina already had Mal trapped before the curse happened.

So if that is the case, that mysterious flying thing might indeed be a monkey, which makes me kind of excited if the writers really did plan all this out that far back.
She looks very grey and the flying thing is definitely more light brown and tan.
Maybe someone with better photo software skills can enlarge the image of the flying thing?

Wow! I always thought it was a random flying dragon… Hmm. If the pic of the monkies showed up not too long after that bit, then I agree 100% that its a monkey… Hmm…. But where could it be flying to to escape the curse?
Unless the monkey could fly to different lands, or atleasr to the region where Cora’s bubble was active, it should have been taken with the curse.
Also,could someone upload the pic if the dragon that James…slew? Slaid? The one James killed >>
